What You'll Contribute

The Cloud Data Engineer is responsible for Enterprise Data Services (EDS) related technical design, development, production support, and maintenance efforts across the portfolio of AWS data ingestion services and ETL applications owned by the EDS. This position requires technical expertise in all phases of the development and will interact with EDW team leads, business teams and management to gather requirements in resolving issues and building new ETL solutions. The incumbent will leverage technical and programmatic expertise of integrated AWS services and resources, and ETL applications to build solutions on a variety of project types and project sizes according to existing engineering patterns. The Cloud Data Engineer will be responsible for technical design and related documentation, testing and implementation. When requested, the engineer will also be responsible for the documentation of business requirements. The incumbent will work with the team to recommend and implement clear and effective EDW development standards and quality control procedures to positively impact/effect on-going code development projects thereby improving data quality and dependability of EDW data. All new designs and design changes shall be performed in adherence with internal policy and controls in accordance with industry and SLM best-practices, compliance, and standards. Solutions shall be designed to achieve the highest quality and reliability while accounting for effective error handling, development, and proactive management of ETL processes. Responsible for working with IT Management, the Cloud Data Architect, Business and Governance Organizations to foster buy-in on vision and disciplines of the group.

What You'll Do
  • Technical Design and Development
    • Supports implementation of data solutions according to established engineering patterns to satisfy business acceptance requirements and ensure alignment with project objectives, compliance, project controls and desired levels of quality within commitment timeframes.
    • Coordinates technical and architectural teams and external partners to build or deploy solutions as required by EDS development teams.
    • Employs and applies Agile/Iterative forms of development methodologies to best meet business and project initiatives.
    • Leads by example across organization lines.
  • Production Support / Maintenance / Problem Resolution and Management
    • Monitors ongoing production ETL and identifies, recommends, and implements strategies to limit recurring failures and monitor data quality.
    • Drives issues to resolution. Researches or participates in root-cause / problem investigation of a system, business, or technical nature. Examples may include answering audit questions or researching and solving complex production problems.
    • Designs, tests, and implements strategies that provide timely, targeted, and effective business communications regarding load status and technical changes impacting users.
    • Evaluates and recommends solutions which maximize and or improve data quality and data operation reliability.
  • Technology Advancement
    • Supports the identification and assessment of the viability and efficiency of new EDS engineering patterns in response to ever evolving corporate and internal IT initiatives and evolving technology.
    • Supports the management of the EDS portfolio of existing engineering patterns including standards, code migration, and engineering checklists for use by development team.
    • Attends design sessions with end-user, reporting & development staff that are developing new systems or modifying existing systems using various IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS technology to assess new and or recommend existing engineering patterns as it relates to EDS.
    • Leads the analysis and resolution of complex problem sets with minimal technical guidance or precedents or where generally applied principles are inadequate or unavailable.
    • Stays abreast of new and emerging technology solutions. Rapidly acquires understanding and application of new technologies. Provides input to management regarding future evolution of products and services in response to internal changes and industry trends.
    • Supports champion/challenger enablement via "proof of concept" initiatives and or "spikes" to identify clear and repeatable engineering patterns in conjunction with the Cloud Data Architect.
    • Supports the team in the documentation and adoption of new or modified engineering patterns.
  • Systems-Tools Analysis and Planning
    • Works with various members of the Enterprise Data Services team to identify opportunities to leverage existing tools and functionality to bring more efficiency to data warehouse capabilities and enhancing data quality. May entail working with existing vendors and Information Technology teams to review documentation and put forward recommendations on usage
  • Communication
    • Communicates with technical and project teams including PDO staff, business sponsors, key stakeholders, and IT staff.
    • Keeps customers and IT management informed on product or service delivery on routine basis.
    • Identifies customer and IT needs and issues, both proactively and reactively.
    • Forms close partnerships with business and IT teams and significantly influence their directions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You Have

Minimum Education, Skills and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Information Technology/Computer Technology or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years SQL development experience.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience designing / developing application solutions
  • 3-5+ years of experience with relational databases
  • 3-5+ years IT development experience.
  • 3-5+ years' experience within a data lake, data warehouse development environment
  • 3-5+ years' experience using data, Extract, Transformation and Loading (ETL) tools.
  • 3-5+ years of experience with Cloud based services on AWS including various data services, runtime layers, logging, and event notification services
  • 1+ years of experience with Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse
  • 2+ years with Data Lake tools and methodologies
  • Fluent with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and presentation software (Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • AWS Certification and or requisite AWS Immersion Courses or AWS engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of the suite of AWS data management services, resources, and tools.
  • SQL and relational database theory
  • Python experience
  • Ability to plan and execute against complex projects among competing priorities and commitments
  • Ability to quickly assimilate information on unfamiliar technologies
  • Extensive knowledge and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (clear and concise)
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate project risks to successful project execution and delivery dates.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and manage changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate with multiple levels of management.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
  • Experience with Informatica Power Center and Informatica Power Exchange
  • Knowledge of Consumer loan, or other financial institution loan or credit product
  • Knowledge of Consumer Collections Industry
  • Knowledge of Accounting, Finance, and Budgeting processes
  • Knowledge of banking and privacy regulations
  • Experience in Scaled Agile Framework
