Senior Telecom Transport Engineer

• Understand what SONET is and experience installing, supporting, and terminating at the different OC levels.
• Understand DC Power and distribution
• Working knowledge of digital cross connect systems and channel banks.
• Performs related activities as directed. Manages personal self-development and maintains current knowledge of the industry to leverage more effective or emerging technologies
• Develops plans and prepares engineering job packages consisting of detailed parts/equipment lists, logical installation, removal, modification instructions and appropriate documentation (drawings, wiring diagrams, layouts, etc.) to support an efficient installation and maintenance process.
• Works effectively with other team members to successfully implement transport projects.
• Monitors installation work to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, standards and procedures.
• Maintains familiarity with current, emerging, and legacy telecommunications technology and available facilities.
• Resolves complex technical problems and provides technical assistance to installation and maintenance personnel.
• Responsible for Telecom Change Management related to project work.
• Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

• Four years of experience designing and implementing transport networks
• Understand different types of SONET and Ethernet connections.
• Understand the basics of Ethernet switching and routing
• Understand what SONET is and the different OC levels
• Understand how BLSR/UPSR SONET ring protection and G.8032 Ethernet Protection schemes work
• Understand the different types of fiber optics, connector types, and SFPs
• Engineer should have a good grasp of how DWDM systems work, preferably Ciena 6500 DWDM systems
• Must pass security background check
• Understanding of communication technology and fundamentals.
• Strong interpersonal skills to support successful performance in a team environment

• Experience with Remedy tools and processes.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Experience with the Corporate Documentation System (Fusion) or similar inventory systems.
• Experience implementing DWDM, TDM and SONET transport systems
• Experience with transport systems including Alcatel-Lucent (DMX family), Cisco (15454 etc.) , Adtran TA product line, Loop O9330 Muxes, Positron and Teleite Protection Products, RF Microwave, Alcatel 8505, Nokia 9500, Harris P25 and new generation Ciena (3900 and 6500).

• Plainfield, IN. Travel could be required throughout our service territory in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Travel could also be required outside the service territory. Work at Energy Control and Nuclear facilities could be required.
