Job Description

Develop future leaders and help youth remain in school by providing relevant and challenging classroom and work-based learning experiences to develop students’ personal, leadership and employability skills.

1.Provides a comprehensive program of classroom, work-based, and community-based activities designed to help students achieve personal and program goals.

2.Teaches a minimum of 3 credit classes of the JAG curriculum in the assigned high school daily or every other day if assigned school utilizes block scheduling.

3.Uses current and effective teaching methods to teach and instruct students including lecture, hands-on activities, and team teaching tailoring teaching methods to the needs of the students.

4.Develops classroom lesson plans incorporating the JAG and JobReady curriculums along with supplemental materials, activities, and guest speakers to ensure students achieve specific JAG and JobReady competencies.

5.Grades and records students’ assignments, and assigns and reports letter grades for each student every marking period.

6.Evaluates students and awards JobReady employability badges to students upon achievement of requirements for each badge.

7.Establishes a positive rapport and working relationships with students, parents, the school district and building administration, faculty and staff, funders and community partners.

8.Formulate and implement outreach activities to recruit and assists in identifying and selecting those students who would benefit from participation in the JAG program and works with school counselors to ensure required numbers are scheduled into JAG classes.

9.Provides information and education to students and their parents/guardians about the JAG program and assists them in the enrollment process.

10.Assesses each student’s educational and employment preparedness and administers required testing and assessments.

11.Builds teamwork, leadership skills, and commitment to community service among JAG students by organizing and serving as advisor to the student-let Career Association.

12.Provides case management services, guidance, support, tutoring, and referral to other community partners when appropriate, to ensure students stay in high school and complete graduation requirements.

13.Leads and conducts periodic case management meetings with each student to set goals and determine a service strategy and course of action to achieve established goals and objectives.

14.Inputs data into multiple database systems and maintains case files.

15.Provides a minimum of monthly follow-up services to students for a minimum of one year following high school graduation or expected graduation date.

16.Monitors and maintains program and participants data and records including graduation rates, positive outcome rates, aggregate employment rates, postsecondary rates, full-time jobs and placement rates.

17.Advocates for the program, develops community support resources by working with employers, parents, as well as community agencies and groups to build awareness of and support for the program. Participates in public relations activities, attends staff meetings, committees and training sessions.

18.Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This position has no direct supervisory duties but is expected to train or explain work procedures to others.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree is required.

Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance.

Minimum of one year of related work experience.

Skills and Abilities:

Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods of classroom management, curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

Microsoft Office products and on-line client management systems

Knowledge of area education systems and community resources available to youth.

Clerical — Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology.

Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

Additional Information

Work is performed mostly inside the facility.

Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, squatting, lifting (up to 10 lbs), carrying, pushing and climbing.

Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Subject to long periods of sitting and exposure to computer screen.

Keyboarding and data entry, use of telephone.
