The Control Desk Specialist is responsible for assisting the healthcare team with clerical duties and facilitates communication and contributes to patient care. Technical aspects of patient care are performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The Control Desk Specialist participates in scheduling of appointments and assisting with billing/charges for patient accounts. The Patient Care Tech assures that each patient and family he/she comes into contact with receives prompt recognition and assistance and is treated with the utmost courtesy. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:% of Time(annually)Key Accountability· Control Desk Specialist is responsible for clerical duties of the clinic. · Greet all patients and families· Complete registration upon patient arrival· Phone management· Managing Work Queues: referrals and billing· Scheduling appointments· Patient chart management · Billing80%· Key Accountability· Control Specialist assists in patient flow when clinic is busy· Rooming patients· Cleaning rooms· Stocking supplies10%Basic UPH Performance Criteria · Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.· Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.· Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.· Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.· Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.· Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Good understanding or prior use of the following programs or ability to train quickly: Excel, Word
