Histotechnician

UnityPoint - Allen Hospital Full-Time: Monday-Friday; 1st shiftThe Histotechnician position, is a certified position (MLT, CLA, HT) that is responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses in the pathology department of the laboratory, primarily in Histology. Associate must present record of certification to the Laboratory Director within 1 year of employment and/or within 90 days of expiration of MLT, CLA or HT certification.The Histotechnician cuts and embeds tissues, performs grossing of tissue specimens and assists with frozen sections as needed. Accession, stain, coverslip, and label Histology specimens.

Performs immunostains

Receive and log in histology specimens and process as required.

Register on Hospital information system and order histology orders into Pathology system.

Prepares slides for sendout, receive slides into Histology returning from sendout

Associate degree –Must have a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) Or At least 60 Semester hours academic credit from a college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) or Qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec 493.1489

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

MLT/CLA/HT-ASCP (non regulatory)

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
