Lab AssistantPRN; variable start times; 8 hour shifts; FTE 0.01Location: MuscatineUnder general supervision, collects and prepares specimens for analysis or other medical purposes utilizing appropriate equipment based on requirements for specified tests or procedures; verifies identity of patient; accurately labels, stores, distributes specimen for processing. Interacts successfully with patients. Collects blood via venipuncture and capillary. Ensures specimen requirements are met at time of collection and maintains sample integrity. Accurately labels specimens.
Performs duties assigned and documents on appropriate checklist.
Performs EKG’s
Enters orders and receives specimens into Laboratory Information System.
Performs registration functions as required.
Responsible for inventory and restocking designated areas.
Assists in orientation and training of new employees.
Minimum RequirementsIdentify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.Preferred or SpecializedNot required to perform the essential functions of the position.Education:Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.Certified Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist.Experience:License(s)/Certification(s):Required if applicable.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Ability to read and communicate effectively. Maintains skill level completing verification, competency, and/or proficiency documentation as required Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and other departments. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and functions under stressful situations. Completes laboratory departmental competency testing as assigned and in a timely manner.
