ABOUT THE JOB:

At our Ankeny Iowa site, we develop best-in-class automated electrophoresis instrument and reagent product lines within the Biomolecular Analysis Division. To strengthen our team, we are looking for an R&D Mechanical Engineer for the design and development of laboratory instrumentation. This individual will design and develop novel products, components, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts and research techniques. This role would also include testing design ideas in a laboratory environment along with solving complex and high-impact design and development problems. While also assisting in product definition/concept generation to meet design and business growth objectives. This individual may also facilitate the transition of product design and enhancements to full production/delivery. Responsibilities include:
  • Perform mechanical design for automated electrophoresis instrumentation during development through product release including creating drawings, BOM's and working with suppliers on the design and purchase of parts.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional project team meetings during product development (comprised of mechanical, electronics, firmware, software, applications, marketing, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Lead the technical activities for new product development following the Agilent lifecycle process.
  • Follow the latest technology trends and propose new insights for further research and development.
  • Coordinate build of breadboard prototype instruments to demonstrate proof-of-concept results to show feasibility.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze technical issues in-depth to understand core problems and provide sound solutions.
  • Work with QA on tests and product improvements.
