Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1893 MercyOne Central Iowa has the longest continually operating hospital in Des Moines and is also one of the largest employers in the state with more than 7000 employees and a medical staff of more than 1000 physicians and allied health associates. MercyOne Central Iowa is a member of MercyOne which was founded in 1998 through a collaboration between CommonSpirit Health and Trinity Health – two of the country’s foremost not-for-profit Catholic health organizations. MercyOne has more than 20000 colleagues in Iowa and surrounding states.ResponsibilitiesTriage antepartum mothers for preterm labor, active labor, rupture of waters, pregnancy complications, or co-existing issues

Manage patients in labor, including induction assistance, epidural assistance, pain management, education, and delivery support

Fetal assessment and monitoring

Assist and circulate in operating room for cesarean sections, tubal, and emergency obstetric and gynecological procedures

Educate patients on medications (name and purpose), labor, pushing, delivering, and postpartum care of mother and baby

Newborn care and assessment for healthy infant

Breastfeeding and postpartum support/management

Collaborate with care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, and charge nurse

QualificationsAssociates Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Active Registered Nurse Licensure by the Iowa Board of Nursing

(Includes nursing licenses with eNLC multi-state privilege)Basic Life Support (BLS)

Completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training.

(Must obtain within three (3) months of start date if incomplete.)Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
