OverviewGovCIO is seeking a Strategic Communication Specialist to join our Intake Coordination Team with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Strategic Communication Specialist will serve as a key member of the Intake team with primary responsibilities that include executive communications as well as support for internal communications and employee engagement. The role requires strategic thinking, outstanding organization and planning, and a strong ability to collaborate and communicate with internal, cross-functional teams and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator and enjoy working on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. This US-based fully remote position operates Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM ET.Responsibilities

Ensure smooth execution of executive engagements with relevant customers/partners.

Plan and prepare messaging for Intake Executive engagements and meetings across the VA and OIT (Office of Information and Technology).

Develop and execute executive communication support, including leader messaging, organization and employee communications, and presentation content.

Develop an executive messaging framework for the SPM/PE Intake and implement communications for leadership

Develop customer-focused messaging to drive engagement across SPM and PE (Product Engineering).

Oversee the creation, dispersal, collection, and analysis of engagement surveys.

Manage SharePoint and Microsoft Teams channels, developing creative content ideas to drive engagement.

Build and maintain a communications library of messaging documents, briefing materials, FAQs, good news stories, and other materials.

Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders to build trust and support.

Act as the primary media contact, handling information inquiries and requests for briefs.

Ensure all communication materials are consistent with the VA brand’s objectives and values.

Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with ICT and organizational goals.

Implement day-to-day communications tactics outlined in the engagement strategy and communications plan.

Monitor trends and best practices in internal communications to improve strategies.

Develop strong internal relationships to support communications, stakeholder engagement, and program priorities.

Execute internal communications campaigns to engage personnel and drive team culture.

Gather, analyze, and report data on marketing and communication campaigns.

Use insights from data analysis to adjust strategies and improve outcomes.

Organize and promote high-profile events.

Manage the planning and execution of events, conferences, and meetings.

Create and support event schedules, timelines, and agendas.

Promote events through Teams and email campaigns.

Innovate and implement new communication tools and techniques.

Continuously improve communication processes and strategies.

QualificationsRequired Skills and Experience

Bachelor's in business administration, Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or related fields plus 8 years of experience. An additional 8-10 years of experience may be substituted for education Proven experience in content writing.

Experience in developing communication plans.

Strong verbal communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and in a remote team setting.

Exceptional writing and content creation skills for various platforms.

Strategic communication planning to align with organizational goals.

Analytical skills to assess communication processes and campaigns.

Project management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with team members, stakeholders, and partners.

Presentation skills for delivering polished presentations to diverse audiences, including senior executives.

Proficiency with content management systems, event management software, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, video editing/creation programs, MS SharePoint, and various communication platforms.

Understanding of social media strategies and digital marketing tools.

Must be a US citizen.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience with Veterans Affairs or other government agencies.

PMP, Scrum Master, and/or other Agile/SAFe certifications.

Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP)

Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC)

Digital Marketing Professional Certification
