Job Description

This Medical Writer position is responsible for medical writing activities including researching, preparing, coordinating, and editing scientific documents, responses, and other communication materials for ProPharma Group clients. The Medical Writer must possess excellent grammatical, editorial, and proofreading skills, and the ability to interpret and present extremely complex data all with minimal oversight. This position may be required to provide guidance on planning, regulations, strategy, and industry best practices, The Medical Writer will be required to deliver quality work according to the client expectations and within necessary timeframes. The Medical Writer may also train and advise other internal professionals on writing styles and techniques.

Essential Functions Include:

  • Support all medical writing activities associated with clients of ProPharma Group.
  • Work with clients, ProPharma Group management, and project leads to draft, edit, and finalize a variety of documents such as abstracts, standard and custom letters, posters, slide decks, and presentations. May assist with other scientific publications and documents (e.g., dossiers).
  • Ensure creation of high quality documents with regards to scientific content, organization, clarity, accuracy, format, consistency, and adherence to regulatory, client-specific, and internal guidelines.
  • Perform literature evaluations including Periodic Safety Updates, literature summaries, and other comprehensive writing projects as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of writing activities, including document version control, source documentation, and project management.
  • Coordinate/ oversee review and approval process for writing projects.
  • May act as department resource for training, mentoring, and development of process improvements for medical writing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have:

  • B.S./B.A.in related discipline (i.e., pharmacology, healthcare field) with applicable combination of education and experience required.
  • Advanced degree in pharmacy, nursing or biosciences preferred.
  • Additional qualifications in medical writing (AMWA, RAC, etc.) are advantageous.
  • Two to four years of medical writing experience, preferably in a medical information setting.
  • Proficiency generating Standard Response Documents (SRD) for Pharmaceutical Companies, in accordance with the FDA guidelines
  • Expert writing and editorial skills with a high level of AMA style and medical terminology expertise.
  • Proficiency in the suite of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven organizational and timeline prioritization skills; scheduling flexibility to accommodate work volumes and the ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Experience within a broad range of medical writing projects is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grammatical, editing, and proofreading skills, plus the ability to interpret and present complex analytical data.
  • A strong understanding of pharmacology.
  • The ability to write fluent, and grammatically-correct, American English.
  • Experience with major published literature databases (e.g., PubMed, Embase)
  • Proficiency in the suite of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent time management skills in order to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision, as well as work within stringent timelines while maintaining medical/scientific accuracy.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to coordinate deliverables on multiple projects and provide leadership to client teams.
  • Proficiency with computers and their applications.
  • Good and effective organizational, negotiation, and planning skills.
  • Self-Motivation and adaptability.
  • The ability to teach /mentor team members.
