Job Description

TITLE: Teacher Aide II & III

Prefer candidates with piano playing skills

This position travels between Indian Hills and Farley Elementary schools.

SALARY:$10.00/hour

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 7hours/day, 9 months/year (benefits-eligible)

REPORTS TO: Supervising Teacher

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the supervising teacher and the building principal.

JOB GOAL: To provide a well organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Under supervision of licensed teacher, prepare for classroom activities.

2. Work with small groups of students to reinforce materials initially introduced by the teacher.

3. Assist individual students in need of special attention.

4. Perform clerical duties and record keeping as assigned by the teacher.

5. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.

6. Access communication and instructional resources and support student use of computers.

7. Assist teacher with non-instructional classroom duties.

8. Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work.

9. Assist in drill work.

10. Assist with reading and storytelling.

11. Assist small groups of students under teacher’s supervision in library work.

12. Participate in in-service training programs.

13. Assume responsibility for maintaining classroom control when the cooperating teacher is out of the classroom for short periods of time.

14. Communicates effectively with supervising teacher about classroom and student

Issues, and communicates with students in a manner that supports learning.

15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. College Degree (III) high school diploma or equivalent (II).

2. Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.

3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as are determined to be appropriate and acceptable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

2. Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.

3. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

4. Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing/keyboarding or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole arm or hand.

5. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

6. Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skins, particularly that of fingertips.

7. Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.

8. Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or finger.

9. Medium work: Must move objects or the human body by exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. The work requires sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and/or stooping. Frequent changes in position may be required.

10. Minimum standard based on the criteria of accuracy and neatness of work for teachers.

11. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
