In our Leawood, Kansas office, we are seeking a highly talented and driven Senior Business Analyst to join our dynamic, high-performing team focused on modernizing our technology ecosystem and transforming our business processing capabilities that support our institutional clients in an industry leading business unit, Institutional Life (IL). IL offers sophisticated life insurance products in the Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI) and Corporate Sponsored markets.

This role is on the Technology team working on our innovation roadmap which focuses on eliminating points of friction within our diverse platform portfolio, simplifying our business processes, building more scalable applications, and modernizing our core data management ecosystem and business intelligence capabilities. We are looking for a highly organized problem solver that has a track record of working collaboratively with a cross-functional team to modernize, transform, and maintain our foundational ecosystem. The individual should have a data driven and business product owner mindset with skills in communicating across workstreams, project teams, functional teams, and up to senior leaders. The Senior Business Analyst position will partner with Product Management to gather and document business requirements from functional areas requesting system and data model enhancements, convert them to technical requirements, communicate changes to the appropriate software development teams, and validate the quality of those deliverables.

The Senior Business Analyst is a critical role on the data, integrations and reporting delivery team that is responsible for executing our data and business intelligence strategic roadmap. The position will challenge your strategic, analytic and team-building skills, and require perseverance to overcome various types of obstacles. Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Business Product Owners, Data Stewards, and reporting analysts to define business requirements and represent our business as a proxy with technical delivery teams.
  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements and user stories that are easily understood by solution developers
  • Work with architects and technical leads to design data and reporting solutions that satisfy business requirements and align with NYL technology principles
  • Create and enhance operations, sales, and strategic business reporting capabilities based on internal and external client needs
  • Solicit business input to iteratively refine project scope to effectively deliver desired business value within aggressive program timelines
  • Provide quality assurance testing guidance to development partners and perform User Acceptance Testing to ensure high quality of data solutions delivered.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from multiple disciplines to create alignment on how their objectives are enabled through program requirements
  • Support Business Leads with the development of a roll-out strategy and change management plans for platform releases, data model enhancements and transitions to new technology solutions.
  • Develop business cases for specific solution features to help prioritize and sequence phases of the delivery roadmap
  • Troubleshoot data specific production issues and business user questions in support of our technical production support team
  • Use a variety of data analysis and organization tools to support business initiatives

Essential Requirements and Experience:

  • Experience writing and communicating business requirements for Database Management, Data Models, Business Intelligence Reporting capabilities
  • In-depth expertise in Business Analysis, collaborating with Data Stewards / Product Owners, grooming product backlogs, writing acceptance criteria and working with Agile practices / delivery teams.
  • Experience directing priorities to solution development teams and working with our business to ensure quality deliverables.
  • Experience with data mapping, data modeling, and report design
  • Experience with SQL and database query tools
  • Excellent analytical skills, independent thinking and ability to exercise prudent judgment; ability to identify problems, issues and risks, and implement solutions before they impact project and program timelines.
  • Basic understanding of SDLC and change management as it pertains to software development
  • Successfully build strong partnerships to work both independently and as a collaborative team player who is highly proficient in working across organizations and with cross-functional teams.
  • Highly polished communicator who can effectively collaborate with others to build consensus across the teams/organizations on business requirements.
  • Highly flexible and adaptive to changing priorities and managing multiple simultaneous commitments on time, on budget and with quality.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate business design workshops to discuss current state and future state process re-engineering.

Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of Business Analysis, Database Management, Management Consulting or related experience.
  • Bachelor of Science / Arts in a Business/Computer Science/IT or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to bridge / facilitate efforts between technical and business teams
  • Proven relationship management skills
  • Passionate about process improvement and proven ability to creatively solve problems
  • Highly motivated self-starter demonstrating integrity, initiative and innovation qualities
  • Quickly learns new businesses and complex processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple business domains in support of projects
  • Ability to partner with development teams that support various technology platforms
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Microstrategy, IBM Cognos, SAP Crystal Reports
  • Skilled in SDLC including the end to end technology delivery process
  • Skilled in project software: SharePoint, MS Project, MS Office, and Visio
  • Knowledge of Agile, QA, & Support tools such as PractiTest, TFS, or JIRA preferred
  • Knowledge of SAFe delivery practices and proven experience a plus
  • Master's degree a plus.
  • LOMA 281, LOMA 291 and Series 6 a plus
  • Insurance/Finance Industry experience preferred

Travel Requirement: 10%
