This position is in Cargill’s protein and salt business, where we provide wholesome, high-quality food products to a wide range of customers, from foodservice operators and grocery stores to manufacturers and exporters.Job Purpose and ImpactThe Senior Food Scientist will explore, develop, and improve new and existing products including beef hides, rendering items, variety meats, underutilized and inedible raw materials. In this position, you will provide technical expertise to identify, analyze, transform, and improve byproducts for different industry applications and value adding of retail products. This position identifies and implements technical solutions against business goals and supports our customer driven initiatives and strategy. Location Wichita, KS.Key Accountabilities
Provide technical leadership in product and process development and improvement, quality systems, regulatory oversight, and support to the Byproduct team/area.
Develop and implement innovation strategies considering market landscape, customer needs, and business strategy.
Collaborate with business, marketing and innovation groups to develop short and long term programs for experimental and commercial product development.
Work with cross functional teams including business, marketing, insights, sales, ops, food safety quality and regulatory.
Partner with sales, business management and marketing partners to identify customer needs and translate these into new product development opportunities.
Stay current with literature and analytical advancements and works with independently on daily tasks.
Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
Ability to travel for customer visits and plant trials up to 30% of the time.

Bachelor’s degree in animal science, food science, meat science, food engineering, or related field
Experience leading teams
Minimum of four years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or other post-secondary degree
Animal protein, meat quality, food safety, food engineering, or food chemistry experience
Strategic thinker with ability to build effective plans to support strategic initiatives
