Job Description

The Senior Sales Engineer provides design and sales communication link between our client, brand builders, the BlueScope ConstructionProject Manager, sales team, estimating staff, plus any involved consultants and other vendors.We develop preliminary structural design solutions for design/build opportunities, plus cost basis, conduct coordination with internal and external suppliers. This role includes necessary support of during the proposal effort through the design/build execution process. This is a leadership role which requires ensuring that the key benefits are metor exceeded by delivering quality solutions which minimize scope creep/margin erosion. We deliver quality, timely solutions resulting in repeat business at a modest margin.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review building drawings and specifications to identify scope of work required for proposal
  • Develop structural solutions and assist or generate estimates for PEB, conventional and hybrid structures to best meet the building requirements based on in-place costs and schedule
  • Maintain department pricing controls and coordinate with BBNA pricing guidelines
  • Provide technical support to customers and brand builders during sales effort
  • Develop and maintain relationships with material suppliers and fabricators
  • Maintain consideration for Erection safety
  • Coordinate with the Government Services Order Manager and our Detailing Quote Coordinator
  • Act as the Government Services liaison with our Engineering team (Design & Detailing) to ensure quality and timely design within monetary budget requirements

Qualifications

MinimumEducation & Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or related)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Ability to implement all building codes and steel product codes into design and proposal. This includes but is not limited to IBC, ASCE, AISC CFE2008, SJI, SDI, REP2014, NSR-10
  • 10 years of combined experience in construction industry, including 3 years of structural design and pricing of steel buildings and 3 years of proposal, estimating, or sales experience
  • Working knowledge of construction industry
  • Competent with structural design software (RISA, RAM, or STAAD)
  • Experience in design of heavy industrial, large distribution, and hangar facilities
  • Strong sales acumen and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen

PreferredEducation & Experience Qualifications

  • Experience with metal building design

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership skills necessary to drive a team to the desired outcome
  • Communication skills to provide technical support to customers for sales effort
  • Creativity to furnish cost savings solutions to customer
  • Basic understanding of the PEB market, Steel Erection and General Construction
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to set and achieve goals and deadlines
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and quickly adapt to a changing landscape
