Pharmacy: The outpatient pharmacy is located at 1451 Dowell Springs Blvd in Knoxville, Tennessee and open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. We also have an inpatient pharmacy located at Peninsula Hospital in Louisville, Tennessee. Patients may fill all prescriptions at the outpatient location, not just psychiatric medications. Our pharmacy team is fast, confidential and strives to give patients the most cost-effective option. Position Summary: Provide prescribed pharmaceuticals, medications, information and clinical monitoring for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices. Compounds, labels, and packages medications and pharmaceuticals.
Responsible for review of patient medication profiles for drug compatibilities, allergies, and appropriateness of drug order. Clarifies medication orders and/or doses of medication as necessary with physicians.
Provides drug information to physicians, health care professionals, and patients. Assists nursing staff in calculations of infusion rates and IV drips.
Responsible for dispensing of medications of investigational drug trials to ensure proper study protocol procedures are followed.
Provides support and consultative services to physicians.
Supervises technicians to include verification of drug order entry, filling of inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, and admixture of intravenous medications.
Informs patients and family on proper use of various medications including dosage, side effects, and composition.
Ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis.
Inspects nursing units on a monthly basis to ensure medications are maintained according to Tennessee State Law and manufacturer’s storage requirements.
Assists in preparing computerized patient care reports such as medication administration record and automated drug cabinet usage reports.
Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of the population served.
Participates in community education programs to provide medication information.
Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Education: Graduate of accredited college of pharmacy. Minimum Experience: Demonstrated written and/or verbal communication skills necessary. Ability to research and disseminate drug therapy information to health care personnel.Must be in good standing with the board of pharmacy. Minimum of 2 years experience in a retail pharmacy setting. Must have excellent communication skills. CPR and immunization certification is preferred. Must enjoy being part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary medical team. Previous experience with mental health patients is preferred but not required. Licensure Requirement: Current TN pharmacist license. CPR required.
