Job Description

The Cylinder Maintenance Technician is responsible for all aspects of maintenance, cleaning, inventory, tracking, and shipping of sample cylinders throughout the Upstream group locations.

  • Responsible for cleaning, per SOP and/or lab policy, all cylinders used by the St. Rose, LA laboratory and potentially others used throughout our system.
  • Responsible for tracking all cylinders throughout departmental locations using existing SharePoint tracking program.
  • Responsible for general maintenance of all cylinders. This includes repair of cylinders, valves, rupture disks, plugs, labels, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring cylinders comply with all US DOT regulations regarding shipping and transport throughout the USA.
  • Responsible for keeping all documentation up to date (paper and electronic) to meet DOT and SGS requirements.
  • Understand and keep current with all OSHA, SGS, and client safety and reporting techniques.
  • Provide feedback to management on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for the operation of steam generation cleaning equipment.
  • May be required to travel to other SGS offices within and outside of the State of Louisiana.
  • Must follow all SGS policies regarding safety and participate fully in all SGS safety programs.
  • Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience working with hand tools in associated industries such as petrochemical, mechanical, carpentry, or other field where good mechanical aptitude is desired.
  • Must be able to pass certification as set forth by commercial carriers and DOT shipping by air and ground using freight transportation for dangerous goods.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, or squat.
  • Must be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical and petroleum products.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs for short periods of time.
  • Able to work extended or abnormal hours (evenings, weekend / holiday) when needed to meet business commitments.
  • Travel expected to be less than 10% of work time.
