Job Description

The General Accountant positions support the Senior Accountant/Controller in all grants and general accounting functions, and provides direct support to school and regional office partners. The General Accountant ensures financial records are recorded and maintained with utmost accuracy, on-time, and in compliance with internal controls and financial policies. The General Accountant must possess:

The General Accountant’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. In executing all responsibilities, the General Accountant must focus on excellent outcomes for the students who KNOS serves and the organization as a whole:

  • Grants Accounting:
    • Submits grant claims and ensures fiscal compliance with federal and private grant awards, applications, budgets and guidelines
    • Works closely with the Development and Grants team to prepare restricted donor budgets, reconciliations, and reporting
    • Records day-to-day cash receipts and receivable entries
  • General Ledger:
    • Prepares bank, restricted fund accounts, and records related journal entries
    • Reconciles balance sheet accounts, including payroll and benefit accounts, and records related journal entries
    • Reviews revenue and expenses for proper ledger coding
  • Reporting:
    • Assists with quarterly and year-end reporting, and prepares annual the annual audit process
    • Assists with preparation of year-end Form 1099 and Form 990 filing
  • Compliance:
    • Maintains compliance with applicable state and federal grant and fund accounting requirements, and implements accounting policies and controls
  • Miscellaneous
    • Supports and provides backup for all accounting functions including, but not limited to, accounts payable, payroll, grants, and purchasing.
    • Supporting KNOS mission and goals in organization wide initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting or auditing, preferably some experience with grant accounting
  • Active CPA license is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Keen attention to detail
