SUBSTITUTIONS: Training in the painting trade will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis. Job ConceptsFunction of Work:To prepare and paint buildings, furniture, bridges, and other structures with brush or spray application.Level of Work:Experienced.Supervision Received:General from a Foreman, Painter Master, maintenance supervisor, warehouse supervisor, warehouse manager, or agency official of higher grade.Supervision Exercised:None.Location of Work:May be used by all state agencies.Job Distinctions:Differs from apprentice and similar job by its journeyman level painting duties.Differs from Painter Leader by lack of requirement to oversee work of other journeyman.Examples of WorkCleans surfaces to be painted by use of sandpaper, burners, scrapers, brushes, dipvats, sanding machines, sandblasters, and dusters.Removes paints, assembles, and disassembles furniture and equipment for refinishing.Mixes, thins, and matches paints.Determines methods of application and applies paint with brush, roller or spray gun to the exterior and interior of buildings, to furniture, to signs, to structural steel, and/or to equipment.Erects and removes scaffolding, swinging stages, and boatswain chairs as necessary.May requisition supplies or maintain records.Performs incidental related duties such as glazing, wall covering, sheetrock, spackling, repairing plaster, and cement work.
