Staff Accountant

Purpose of Position:Support Live Operations and Financial management to achieve their stated objectives by providing analytical reports of performance and maintaining an accurate general ledger close.  The close process includes completing assigned journal entries, researching unusual account balances, completion and distribution of final reports to live operations management.  Provide back-up to manager, other staff accountants, and clerical staff.Essential Job Functions:Preparation of all daily and weekly live performance reports including sold flock performance, feed mill shrink, labor efficiency reports and preparation of weekly P&L’s for management.Research questions from management regarding weekly variances.Preparation of journal entries for period and year-end close and preparation of Accounts Payable accruals for live operations.Prepare and explain period-end variances and comparative reports and prepare account analysis worksheets and take corrective action to resolve any issues resulting from their preparation.Work closely with Hatchery, Feed mill, Breeder, and Broiler Managers.Work with live operations in preparing annual budgets.Develop and update detailed desk procedures for all recurring job tasks and train and develop clerk/clerks that work in the departmentDevelop, analyze and provide live operations management with appropriate analysis which reveals and defines problems that can be acted upon by management to reduce cost, gain efficiencies, and redirect efforts.Assist live operations management and Senior Accountant in special assignments as needed and back-up clerical staff, other accountants, and controller when necessary.Additional Functions:Special projects as assigned by Accounting Manager.Weekly presentation of performance report to operations in absence of manager.Ad Hoc reporting upon request by Operations.Any other duties deemed necessary by management
