As the Controller at Woodhull, you will play a critical role in managing the financial activities of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective financial reporting. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and internal controls. You will own the company’s control processes and accounting policies by maintaining the general ledger, leading the monthly close process, preparing monthly financial statements, as well as managing tax reporting maintenance. You will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer, and you will support their efforts of tracking and planning the broad financial performance of our dynamic architecture, construction, and millwork company.

As Controller, you will be responsible for:

Financial Management:

This position will work closely with the CFO on monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting & reporting for each of our divisions - Residential Architecture, Commercial Architecture, Residential Construction, Commercial Construction and Millwork.

Prepare standard financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and other reporting as requested

Create and manage metrics to analyze and monitor the financial position of the business

Implement and maintain sound accounting policies and procedures.

Compliance and Internal Controls:

Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, laws, and regulations.

Establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.

Coordinate external audits and provide necessary documentation.

Cash Flow Management:

Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and meet financial obligations.

Develop strategies to optimize working capital.

Monitor expense account balances and transactions

Communicate with consultants/vendors to resolve billings issues and with clients to resolve collections issues

Tax Planning and Compliance:

Work with external tax advisors to develop and implement tax strategies.

Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns.

Support the CFO in collection and verification of financial data related to

Financial Analysis: To identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Provide insights into the financial health of the organization.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor budgets.

Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Develop and maintain financial forecasting models.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA certification is a plus but not required).

Proven experience as a Controller or in a similar financial management role.

Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

Advanced proficiency in financial software such as Quickbooks and Microsoft Excel.

Experience working with construction or architecture software such as ProCore and Monograph a huge plus!

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
