Position Summary:Telemetry technicians will observe continuous ECG monitoring and provide interpretation of continuous ECG, alerting unit nurses as needed. Telemetry technicians will maintain telemetry equipment for patients admitted to the cardiopulmonary care unit, surgical-orthopedic unit and medical neuroscience unit.Position Responsibilities:

Failure to maintain current BLS will result in inability to work until proof of

Re-certification is obtained.

Locates emergency devices (i.e. oxygen and gas shut off valves, fire alarms, fire evacuation doors) and is able to verbalize role during emergency situations (i.e. code red, code blue, code strong and disaster).

Functions as the Unit Secretary or Patient companion/observation assistant if cross trained. See applicable job descriptions.

Provides for the safety of the patients through appropriate use of equipment, supplies and restraints observing universal precautions and reporting signs of abuse per hospital policy.

Admits, transfers and discharges patients in accordance to our workflow of telemetry guidelines.

Performs routine telemetry strip interpretation and saves accordingly.

Utilizes red phone in remote telemetry emergencies only.

Demonstrates knowledge ECG interpretation and arrhythmias.

Maintains cleanliness and appropriate storage of telemetry boxes.

Reviews alarms and arrhythmias, interprets arrhythmias, saves accordingly and updates nursing staff and documents in EMR

Ensures CPCU and remote telemetry strips are verified by RN prior to printing and filing in patient’s chart.

Obtain EKG’s for inpatients when the Cardiology Department is not open
