We are seeking an experienced individual to work as a Bioinformatics Scientist (Third & Next Gen Sequencing) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.This is a long-term contract position which offers:Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit package

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:Perform QC on genomic data including next and third generation sequencing long-read sequencing

Performs computations on research data analysis.

Perform analyses on next and third generation sequencing

Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.

Create SOPs for data transfer and QC steps

Records observations and report results at weekly laboratory meetings.

Report and interpret QC and analysis results

Provides statistical support / analysis on research data.

Develop and implement procedures for effective data management

Provides research / service goals in the context of the laboratory's overall mission.

Regularly monitor and evaluate information and data systems that could affect analytical results

Evaluates new types of experimental approaches to protocols based on knowledge of scientific literature, available facilities and research needs.

Optimize, organize, and assist in establishing cost efficient data uploads and downloads

Independently coordinates the training of personnel in the use of scientific software applications, statistical software applications and programmatic software applications.

Assist staff members in the daily use of data

Initiates interdisciplinary collaborations with other research centers.

Organize all incoming data files and data storage for multiple sequencing projects

Deliver at least one presentation per year to audiences outside the Government.

Prepare detailed reports for management on incoming and outgoing data

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:Certifications & LicensesMaster's Degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field

Skills (Ranked By Priority)Experience with next and third generation sequencing- data handling and analyzing

Experience with data organization and storage

Familiarity with high performance and cloud computing

Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex problems clearly in non-technical terms

Excellent organizational skills and ability to decipher and organize large amounts of data

Work with large data sets
