Position: Cloud EngineerLocation: Rockville, MD - RemoteLong Term Contract Position SummaryCloud Engineer will be responsible for performing Cloud Engineering duties such as Cloud readinessassessments, AWS architecture design, system evaluation, system analysis, AWSInfrastructure Operations, Optimization and Maintenance, Change and Configuration ManagementSupport, Release, Control and Validation of Cloud Infrastructure Deployment and Migration andinfrastructure assessment. The cloud engineer shall perform duties on tasks that require expertisein AWS/system/processor architecture, client/server architecture, operating systems, softwareapplications, network protocols, routers, switches, remote access servers, and firewalls. What makes a successful Cloud Engineer?Cloud Engineer will define, create, and maintain fully functional cloud architectures. Advise on theadoption of a cloud environment and support its institutionalization across the organization. Supportmigration, modernization, networking, security, compliance and accreditation, and O&M. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesign, architect, maintain, and operationalize systems on the AWS cloud, while providingtechnical support and developing innovative solutions in alignment with business objectives.Evaluate, test, design, develop, and integrate new cloud technologies and processes to supportexisting infrastructure and modernization efforts and provides recommendations for futuretechnologies and capacity growthMaintain Infrastructure in optimal configuration from both technical and budgetary perspectivesProvide Functional Escalation Support and Expertise to the Incident Management Processesinvolving AWS Infrastructure or related issuesProvide input and guidance to Personnel and Cloud Architects/SMEs to the overall AWS EnclaveCompose and leverage AWS CloudFormation Templates for utilization, to ensure repeatable,sustainable AWS infrastructure is effectively managedDeploy, test and document development, pre-production, and production environmentsCreate Amazon VPC resources such as subnets, network access control lists, and security groupsPerform Operations and Maintenance (O&M), support architecture and security teams,architecture design, system evaluation, system analysis, and infrastructure assessmentWork directly with assigned system owners and development teams to address cloud issues,monitor architecture of assigned systems, provide user access management using zScaler, Okta,Kion, and Active Directory/AD ManageEngine, provide OS/Network-layer support for tenantsystems, and utilize Jira to track tickets to closureLeverage resource tagging to allocate costs and optimize resource planningPerform Cloud migrations and documentation, create gold images / AMIs and employ auto scalingAssist in preparing cost analysis based on expected usageConfigure multi-factor authentication on virtual and hardware devicesMaintain availability of critical AWS Cloud infrastructure and improve operational capabilities ofAWS Enclave as approved and directedInvestigating reported and suspected outage issues, documenting issue, resolution, maintainingknowledge base of known issuesReview and enhance documentation, tenant handbooks, owner’s manual, run books, knownissues knowledge bases, log defectsMust have strong written and verbal communication skillsProficient at prioritization, multi-tasking, and proactive in work responsibilitiesSuperior attention to detail, process creation, improvement, and institutionalizationPassion for providing great customer service Essential Skills and ExperienceMinimum Education: Bachelors degree in related discipline ANDMinimum Experience: 4 years including a cloud certification ORSubstitution/Alternative to Minimum Education and Experience: Must have at least 6 years of on the jobCertifications: Must have an AWS Solutions Architect Associate and/or ProfessionalMust be a US CitizenProficient in scripting including Python, Bash, CloudFormation, TerraformHardworking and self-motivated, with the ability to work in team and individual settingsDetail-oriented and able to stand behind the quality of the workAble to learn quickly on the job in a changing environmentCan generate proficient documentation using the Microsoft Office suiteUnderstand, interpret and communicate level of effort, define due dates, and meet deadlines Nice-to-Have Skills and ExperienceActive Clearance or Public TrustAWS Professional, and/or Specialty Certifications including but not limited to – Solutions Architect, DevOps, SecuritySolid understanding of Linux and Windows operating systemAdvanced troubleshooting skillsPossess and maintain a deep understanding of IaaS and PaaS services offered on cloudplatforms and understand how to use them to design solutions for complex business problemsExperience with AWS CloudWatch and other automation servicesMaintain account documentation, such as architecture diagrams and portal links.Excellent communication, prioritization, and analytical skillsAbility to work in a fast paced and agile development environmentExperience with CloudFront, DataDog / Splunk monitoring, and AD ManageEngine
