CloudOps Engineer

Position Description CGI Federal is currently seeking a self-motivated CloudOps Engineer with solid experience. We are looking for someone to help modernize and innovate our software development practices and processes and improve our AWS cloud infrastructure, and product value streams, so we continue to deploy and release quickly for our clients. We are looking for innovative and creative technical people who can join our talented team and help build new capabilities.

This position requires individuals to be on-site 3 days/week, at minimum

Your future duties and responsibilities - Develops multiple projects and tasks, providing engineering and production support, organized through the Kanban Agile process, Jira and Confluence, participates in daily standup and drives solutions for production issues across the organization.- Proactively identifies problems with requirements (lack of clarity, inconsistencies, technical limitations) for their own work and adjacent work and communicates these issues early to help course-correct.- Comply and follow system architecture processes and other requirements within the documentation tool.- Create, review, and respond to service tickets in the ticketing system and system alerts in internal and external alerting and metrics systems.- Design, build and maintain: - Jenkins-based automated build and deployment tools - Terraform scripting - AWS automation, networking, security, management, and monitoring.- Picks up new technologies and patterns quickly and contributes a leading role to new designs and solutions.- Reviews solutions and work products for completeness, architectural integrity, security, extensibility, and maintainability.- Develop, maintain and improve CI/CD and automated testing pipelines- Configure and maintain infrastructure configuration management platforms- Help improve the overall software development workflow or value streams- Coach and mentor other developers in the most current practices in this field- Contribute in the team's continuous learning and improvement goals- Be a good team member, and contribute to overall team success outside of the primary role

Required qualifications to be successful in this role - BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent experience- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Developer- Intermediate level working knowledge of high availability, high performance, multi-data center systems and hybrid cloud environments- Understanding of the concepts and principles behind DevOps, SRE, CICD, Agile, Lean, etc.- Previous experience working as a software developer- 5+ years of relevant experience: - Troubleshooting complex issues ranging from system resources to application stack traces - Instrumentation, monitoring, alerting, and responding relative to performance and availability of applications - Monitoring tools such as DataDog, New Relic, Cloudwatch, Splunk - AWS, especially EC2, RDS, Lambda, and S3 - Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform - Configuration management tooling such as Ansible, Chef and Salt - Git or BitBucket as a version control system - Data Management - managing relational and NoSQL databases, including Microsoft SQL, Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, RDS, Aurora, Cassandra, MongoDb - Continuous Integration tools (e.g. Jenkins, Travis, Bamboo) - Familiarity with multiple scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Ruby - Containers and container orchestration platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes preferred - Minimum of two (2) years of build automation and release management experience in SaaS production environment - Hands-on experience with Linux administration - Working knowledge of ephemeral infrastructure, horizontal scaling, self-healing architectures, service discovery, logging, monitoring and alerting - Knowledge of best-practice security, performance and networking techniques for high- trafficked public facing systems - Good understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, SSL/TLS and DNS - Knowledge of creating automated pipelines integrating static testing and other features, also integration with Artifactory etc.
