Job Description:Provide support for data center electrical power distribution system and HVAC infrastructure systems. Provides technical oversight and guidance support to other technical staff, plans, and executes related complex monitoring/technical tasks. Maintains communication with Government personnel, hardware vendors and service providers. This individual is also responsible for verifying electrical and cooling problem identification, recommendations, and solutions, as well as maintaining operations logs and quality standards. Provides network design, development, implementation, and installation support; hardware or software product analyses and recommendations; product acquisition support; network administration and management; equipment installation and maintenance; and technology refreshment analysis.Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the management and operations of the critical infrastructure in a modern data center. Required experience includes:
  • Power:
    • Requires experience in the three phase UPS industry, with the ability to interpret electrical schematic.
    • Working knowledge of a multi-module three phase UPS system is a must.
    • Specific background / training with MGE is a plus.
    • Must have the knowledge/ability to interface with the UPS either locally or remotely via the user interface.
    • Possess a thorough understanding of single and three phase AC power.
    • Possess a thorough understanding of DC power and battery solutions.
    • Ability to use a multi-meter.
    • Possess an understanding of NFPA70E and its ramifications.
    • Be knowledgeable in all electrical safety precautions of concern in a data center.
    • Experience with a modular busway power distribution system is a plus.
    • Will be expected to be able to install / remove power distribution units to provide power to different points in the data center.
  • Cooling:
    • Requires experience with data center cooling systems.
    • Must possess a working knowledge of Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) and Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC) units, their operational principals, configurations, and operation.
    • Specific experience with Liebert, Stulz, and APC a plus. A basic understanding of the fundamentals of operation of each type of unit, with the ability to recognize the strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of each type of unit.
    • The ability to perform basic diagnostic analysis of cooling units.
  • Racks:
    • Must be able to assemble and install IT racks (from multiple vendors) and install and configure rack mounted components and accessories in the racks.
    • Must have a thorough understanding of the different styles of racks (i.e., traditional hot vs. cold aisles vs. chimney racks vs. full containment) and how air flow is managed in each style of rack.
  • Data Center Management:
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of the sub-systems of a data center (power / cooling / rack layout / room layout) and how they inter-relate together.
  • Must have hands on knowledge of how a Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tool is used, configured, and updated. (i.e., Schneider-Electric’s DCE / DCO / PME suite of products).
  • Must be able to interface with the DMIM tool, set and monitor thresholds, respond to alarms, add additional devices to the system, and interpret indications to ensure equipment and people are not placed in jeopardy.
    • Must understand what level of service / maintenance each system or piece of equipment in the data center requires.
    • Interface with outside service providers to schedule and plan maintenance, and when they are on site to ensure proper work practices are followed in order to protect people and equipment.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Must be a critical thinker and have the ability to plan ahead long term.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal direction and oversight.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing.
    • Must have above average skills using MS Office software suite, including Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus.
    • Strong computer networking and communication skills, including setting up SNMP type devices for communication over a network. Experience interfacing with data center infrastructure devices over a network via a computer and/or DCIM system.
    • Knowledge and experience with communication software such as Terra Term, Hyper Terminal or similar program is necessary.
    • Physically able to work on the floor of a data center. Some lifting is required, along with the ability to deploy racks and data center infrastructure equipment under the raised floor or overhead utilizing ladders.
    • Relevant industry certifications are desired.
