About the Opportunity

DMI is looking for a

Data Scientist

Duties and Responsibilities:

This data scientist will work on MDOT SHA's Project Fulfillment Center (PFC) to create an agency wide construction project tracking system from conception, initiation, funding approvals, fund tracking, location mapping, build and completion.

Technical: Minimum 2-3 years of recent (within past 5 years) working experience in the following areas required.
  • Programming in Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Power Platform (Apps, Automate, BI, and Dataverse), and SharePoint
  • Strong experience in Data Visualization and Modeling with Esri products (ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS online, etc.)
  • Experience working with Large Complex Data Sets (i.e., includes data cleaning, preparing, extracting, transforming, and loading into a centralized database)
  • Microsoft Office Word PowerPoint Excel, Access
  • Experience with large Data set transfers or ETL processes is desirable. (i.e., data translation including establishing keys, standardizing records, adding tracking information, map project locations in Esri Roads and Highways)
  • Data scientist on MS platforms: Power BI, Synapse, Data lake, Data Factory, ETL - Talend, etc and preferred MS power platform, power apps and power automate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in any field
  • Prior experience working in modeling, visualizations, and understanding of business as well as existing internal econometric models a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiar with at least one of the following programming languages; SQL, .NET
  • Familiar with the Agile SDLC methodology and DevOps
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Able to work in a deadline-driven, project-based environment, where the schedule can be unpredictable
  • High attention to detail and ability to ensure high-quality work
  • Team player willing to contribute to all tasks needed to accomplish team goals
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new concepts quickly, and to take on a broad range of analytical tasks
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and technical writing skills and following an SOP
  • Strong interest in technology
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced demanding environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team

Qualifications

Education and Years of Experience: Bachelors; 2-3 pertinent technical experience

Required and Desired Skills/Certifications: Demonstrable experience with Data Scientist functions pertaining to ESRI (geo-location data) is desireable. Familiarity with ESRI tools such as ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS online, etc.

  • First two weeks - full time onsite / onboarding
  • Hybrid Work Schedule afterwards, coordinating with SHA manager: 2-3 days remote; in office on Tuesday's and one other day coordinated with manager
