HP056 CCMC Software Engineer

We are seeking an experienced software engineer to work closely with scientists to support the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC, https://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

The CCMC hosts a unique and expanding collection of over 80 space science and space weather models developed by the international research community. It provides custom simulation and visualization services, and makes its outputs available to the scientific community via a variety of software dissemination systems such as the Runs-on-Request (ROR) system. With the help of ROR, science users from across the globe can request customized model simulation services using a convenient web-based interface. We are seeking a candidate who can interface with a large multi-disciplinary team, and who demonstrates excellent communication, trouble shooting, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.

Duties of the Software Engineer include:
  • Assist with day-to-day tasks associated with operating the ROR system which includes supervision, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the multi-tier software pipeline that drives the simulation services.
  • Work closely with model developers and CCMC scientists on integrating new models and model combinations into the ROR system using on-premise and AWS computing resources (virtual- and containers-based).
Required experience (at least two years) in a majority of the areas below:
  • Unix Shell scripting
  • Linux operating systems
  • Perl and Python programming
  • PHP and JavaScript web development
  • Docker and AWS technologies (e.g. EC2)
Education: Bachelor's degree with focus in Computer Science, Computational Physics, or Mathematics. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
