TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
  • Provide on-site system administration and data and file server support services to the FMRIF.
  • Monitor security, updating, administration, and backup of FMRIF machines and their associated applications and web sites (Apache, Plone, Redmine and XNAT), primarily for FMRIF sites https://fmrif.nimh.nih.gov and https://fmrif-xnat.nimh.nih.gov.
  • Routinely perform and maintain backup of user and server data and configurations using EMC Networker or other backup software.
  • Perform routine installation, configuration, upgrades, optimization, improvements and troubleshooting support for all servers, with special emphasis on Linux servers and virtual machines. Support for Macintosh desktops and laptops will be coordinated with NIMH IT.
  • Maintain a Storage Area network (SAN) which includes a tape backup systems and multiple large storage systems from multiple vendors (currently NexSan, Quantum and QNAP).
  • Plan and implement network, infrastructure upgrades including new network switch configuration and VLAN definition where and when needed to take advantage of upgrades in NIH network backbone architecture. Optimize data transfer from FMRIF's servers to the NIH Helix/Biowulf high performance cluster, and other campus computing resources.
  • Provide support to FMRI stimulus delivery including organization, inventory, setup and trouble-shooting of hardware, software, and procedures.
  • Evaluate and advise on needs for additional computing hardware and software for FMRIF; initiate and execute IT-related purchases for FMRIF, including servers, desktops, laptops, software and maintenance of existing hardware. Verify compliance with NIH guidelines for IT purchases.
  • Coordinate user support for Linux and Mac workstations with NIMH IT and CIT.
  • Monitor the uptime and health of the systems using (e.g., Nagios) and automate remote management using tools such as Spacewalk and Puppet.
  • Design, deploy and tune high-availability/ high performance virtual machine cluster in support of critical FMRIF functions, including, but not limited to, DICOM image archiving, MRI scanner scheduling, pulse sequence development and software development; conduct migration of virtual infrastructure to new network architectures; optimize distributed switch configuration to maximize efficiency of cluster operations.
  • Create, improve, and tune workflows and automations, using languages such as shell script and Python.
  • REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science or a related discipline; four (4) years of specialized experience plus an Associate's degree is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. One of 3 possible certifications (CompTIA Linux+, RHCE, or RHCSA) plus 3 years of experience is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with: CompTIA Linux+, RHCE, RHCSA
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Thorough training and demonstrated analytical and technical skills in installing, configuring, integrating and administrating servers and workstations in Linux and Macintosh platforms
  • Experience with Software such as: Experience with Storage Area networks (SAN), EMC Networker or other backup software along with experience with virtualization (e.g., VMWare)
  • Skill in one or more scripting languages (bash, python, perl).
