- The CareFirst infrastructure supports six thousand+ internal business users, five million members, and sixty thousand providers across twenty two CareFirst locations.
- The Manager will supervise teams of up to 20 Associates and Contractors.
- Responsible for support of infrastructure used for business mission critical applications including Claims Processing, Enrollment, Financial and Portal websites and 400+ other applications. The Manager is accountable for departmental results and ensuring 99.98% availability for all systems, 7x24x365 operational support and oversees a team responsible for on-call escalation and emergency support.
- Server and Storage infrastructure is managed between On-Premise Data Centers and public clouds (Azure/AWS).
- Manages budget in excess of $4 million, and regularly negotiates contracts with IT vendors.
- The Manager is also directly accountable for the professional development of associates within the team.
- The current environments consist of approximately:
- 2,500+ Windows virtual machines(on-premise/Azure/AWS)
- 2,000+ UNIX/Linux virtual machines (on-premise/Azure/AWS)
- 250+ ESX and P-series servers
- DNS infrastructure across all Carefirst 22 sites
- 3 redundant SAN Fabrics comprised
- 12 PB of SAN storage, 1 PB of cloud storage
- 5000+ backup clients that are backed up nightly
- Provides technical leadership and oversight as required to ensure that all software or systems for which they are responsible are monitored and tuned to ensure acceptable levels of performance and resource utilization. Facilitate communication, troubleshooting and activities across different teams and platforms to ensure that all CareFirst systems are meeting targeting SLAs and performance expectations. Maintain excellent professional relationship with staff to provide leadership and coaching. The manager evaluates performance of each team member, generates development plans and sets goals within the context of the corporate policy. Must also hire, motivate, coach, counsel and develop team members within the context of the corporate policies.
- Responsibility for the organizational structure, processes, and staffing within the section to ensure that each is consistent with corporate initiatives and adequate to meet section goals. The manager understanding of CareFirst business aligns the team’s priorities accordingly. Manages the leadership and planning to ensure resources are utilized appropriately to meet the Division’s strategic objectives. Assigns responsibility and authority to appropriate staff within the team. Reviews staffing requirements within the team to ensure that each is consistent and adequate to meet department goals. Ensures that staff has appropriate tools and training. Ensure team is delivering excellent customer service to all groups that they interact with.
- Creates and manages departmental budget. Provides required financial reports, financial forecasts and status reports as required. Manages and negotiates vendor contracts for software and hardware purchases up to ten million dollars.
- Researches technical and theoretical developments in the field to ensure that customers are receiving the most effective support to meet their business objectives. Provides input to the development of corporate IT standards and policies to ensure compatibility and integration throughout the company. Approve/Manage subcontracting and vendor evaluation studies pertaining to the IT organization, IT Infrastructure and Architectures. Stays current in new IT technologies to maintain high level subject matter expertise.
- Communicates with Directors and other Corporate management to plan and implement Division Strategic Objectives. The manager also communicates with other IT personnel as well as vendors, consultants, and auditors to coordinate and implement system projects and enhancements. Attend management sessions to ensure that the team’s operation and long-range goals are coordinated within the larger framework of department, divisional and corporate initiatives.
- Position requires experience with fully virtualized/private cloud environments and Azure Cloud environments including IaaS/PaaS, IBM Power Series, VMware, Windows OS, Red Hat Linux, NetApp, Pure Storage, EMC Backup and more. Must have at least 6-7 years managing a team.
- The employee is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position. Occasional walking or standing is required. The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects. The employee must frequently talk and hear. Weights of up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted. Travel among CareFirst sites required.
