Mechanical Solutions Engineer

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Solutions Engineer to help lead our growing company in managing the design of our grit reclamation systems and other industry equipment types (dust collectors, vacuum systems, etc.) for both inhouse and outsourced manufacturing. We are looking for a visionary individual with strong project and business management experience to interface directly with our customers in the development of the design specifications and solutions for their purchased industry equipment. Job Responsibilities:• Provide project management support for relevant projects and allocating engineering resources as appropriate.• Analyze customer proposals / specifications and work with engineering team to determine appropriate design. Initiate customer contact and communications, if necessary, when developing proposals and designs.• Identify technical and schedule risks associated with a design decision and communicate them to management.• Contribute to solving customer-driven problems as part of a team, contribute to ideation activities, and adapt appropriately to changes in requirements.• Communicate effectively and openly with a project team members and management, including non-technical personnel.• Manage the team that develops the design concepts from scratch with accompanying highly manufacturable schematic drawings to specification with clear details for both inhouse or outsourced fabrication and leveraging prior successful work for the same.• Participate in sales calls and developing sales quotes.• Provide leadership of equipment design process, ensuring objectives, goals and commitments (i.e. cost, performance, risk and schedule) are met.• Manage project timelines and delegate tasks, provide oversight in the ordering of parts.• Help identify/source other components as needed for complete unit functionality and providing information to purchasing department. Ensure necessary documentation is retained.• Interface directly with customers to understand requirements, identify solutions and to set project expectations.• Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and general quality engineering standards of functionality in design.Requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or business administration (a Master’s would be greatly valued).• 3-7 years’ experience working in an engineering or project engineering capacity.• Minimum 5 years’ experience in project / solutions / business management and providing leadership to other engineers.• Demonstrated experience working directly with customers and translating into design specifications.• Licensed as a Professional Engineer would be a plus.• CAD or Solidworks software experience preferred.• Inventory software knowledge would be a plus.Skills / Qualifications:• Familiarity with design considerations for manufacturing, drawing creation, as well as fabrication and assembly procedures.• Experience with weld joint design and efficiency a plus.• Must be able to self-prioritize projects by checking in with sales and production to constantly re-evaluate customer needs, production capabilities and supply chain delays.• Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate clearly with various levels of mechanical experience/knowledge, from welders/fitters to end-use customers.• Must be able to walk around our production facility to examine equipment as being built and assist shop mechanics with troubleshooting design issues.• Understanding of mechanical engineering principles to design mechanical elements.• Familiarity with machine shop tools and processing.• Dependable with strong attention to detail.• Must be willing to work overtime if needed to meet project deadlines (remote overtime capabilities will be provided).• Must be able to take initiative and see projects through to completion.
