Job Summary: Collaborate on new product development efforts under minimal supervision to build, test and trouble shoot optical systems. Work will be performed in a laboratory environment with a variety of moderate to complex tasks and functional activity.

Job Summary: Optical system assembly and test

  • Clean, characterize, and maintain laser optical components.
  • Assemble optical systems under the guidance of a physicist.
  • Test and validate lasers for functionality and performance.
  • Ability to work with test equipment including oscilloscopes, optical power meters, laser beam analyzers, etc.
  • Familiarity with laser and precision optics handling.
  • Experience assembling opto-electronic components a plus.
  • Assist in writing reports, operational documentation, and other documents as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: Organizational and planning skills, excellent communication and problem solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy, solid judgment and decision-making ability, takes initiative and is adaptable.

  • 1-3 Experience
  • An associates or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Physics, Optics, or other related field and at least two years of relevant experience as a physics or optics technician. Research and Development experience is a plus.
  • Experience with opto-electronics is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Comsol Multi-Physics, Mathematica software preferred.
  • Optical Assembly and Test - Demonstrates ability to deliver excellence by taking personal accountability for achieving high quality outcomes.
  • Ability to independently build and align optical assemblies to achieve operational functionality of the products under development.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required. Possible lifting up to 50 lbs.
