Description Robert Half is recruiting for a Payroll Accountant to join a growing organization in Washington, Dc! As the Payroll Accountant, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll accounting. This includes processing payroll, reconciling payroll-related accounts, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll processing skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll for all employees, including calculating wages, overtime, deductions, and taxes. Ensure timely payroll execution in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.

Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of payroll-related accounts, including payroll liability accounts, and resolve any discrepancies promptly.

Tax Compliance: Prepare and file payroll tax reports and returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Reconcile payroll tax liabilities and coordinate timely payment of payroll taxes.

General Ledger Entries: Prepare and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger. Ensure all payroll transactions are accurately recorded and properly classified.

Benefits Administration: Assist in administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits. Ensure accurate processing of employee contributions and deductions.

Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze payroll-related financial reports, including payroll cost analysis, labor expense reports, and budget variance analysis. Provide insights to support management decision-making.

Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll by providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance payroll and accounting processes. Implement best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

Compliance: Stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations. Ensure all payroll and accounting activities adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing and accounting roles.Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and accounting principles.Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with employees and stakeholders.Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
