Section 508 Specialist

Bowhead is seeking a Section 508 Specialist to provide Assistive Technology program support for the Information Resources Accessibility Program (IRAP) Section 508 office. The Section 508 Program Office is an organization within the US Department of the Treasury's, Office of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that provides agency wide support Assistive Technology (AT) as a reasonable accommodations and technical Section 508 guidance for IRS projects and Agency initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in standing up new Section 508 compliance initiative.
  • Apply knowledge of the technical, policy/procedures and contracting implications of Section 508.
  • Participate as a member of a cross-functional team of IT experts to identify and craft solutions for newly introduced software/solutions.
  • Independently troubleshoot software 508 compliance issues.
  • Advise on technical, policy and contracting implications of Section 508.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical area is desired.
  • No less than 3 - 7 years of relevant experience with Information Technology, preferably Assistive Technology.
  • Knowledge of 508 law including provisions.
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 Principles, Guidelines, Success Criteria, and Sufficient Techniques.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology (AT), its performance, capability, baseline interoperability.
  • Knowledge of features which enhance the accessibility and usability of a web sites and .applications.
  • Experience with 508 Compliance test scripts and reporting of test results.
  • Experience with 508 Compliance testing of web software applications.
  • Knowledge of the technical, policy and contracting implications of Section 508.
  • Knowledge of the purpose for 508 testing. Section 508 accessibility testing experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Knowledge of Inspection/Testing tools. Able to demonstrate testing acumen to coordinate with AT Testers.
  • Soft skills, including effective Communication, teamwork, time management, willingness to learn, empathy, organization, analytical and critical thinking.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust (NAC) level. US Citizenship is a requirement for a Public Trust (NAC) clearance at this location.
