What you'll be challenged to do:National Bridge Inspection Practice has immediate openings for Bridge Inspection Engineers interested in specializing in performing bridge inspections utilizing rope access techniques (SPRAT). The successful candidates will have the flexibility to work out of several office locations throughout the country. The right candidates are detailed oriented, demonstrate strong work ethic and are enthusiastic and passionate about focusing on the inspection and evaluation of in-service bridges. We are seeking bridge inspection engineers who currently hold at least a SPRAT Level I certification with the ability and desire to progress in this role. This position involves the inspection and evaluation of complex and signature bridges along with the preparation of load ratings. The successful candidates will report to the National Rope Access Program Manager and will have the opportunity to work at the national level for owners/agencies in Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa, Texas, California and a growing list of states in which we perform our services. There are also opportunities to be involved in our UAS (drone) inspection program. The ideal candidate can be located anywhere in the US.General duties include, but are not limited to:

Performing bridge inspection assignments on complex and signature structures

Able and willing to travel within the continental United States to perform field inspections (approximately 40% of the time)

Documenting clear and detailed inspection findings

Preparing concise structure inspection evaluation reports

Assisting with the planning and preparation of field inspections

Assisting or participate in the preparation of business proposals, cost proposals, and safety plans

Assisting the Rope Access Program Manager with efficient access and rescue plans

Performing load rating analyses

Participating in bridge design assignments involving contract plan preparation and specifications, design calculations, calculation of quantities and development of cost estimates

Responsible for accuracy of engineering design, reports, load ratings, and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards

Company provided personal rope access kit

Paid overtime (straight time)/travel time

Access to company vehicle

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

Bachelor’s degree in civil and/or structural engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.

Extensive experience using rope access techniques (SPRAT, IRATA) for the inspection of bridges and certified as a SPRAT Level I, II or III Technician.

Completion of the Engineering-in-Training exam.

Completion of the following: NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130055) and NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130078).

Experience and training in the operation of bucket trucks, manlifts, and under bridge inspection vehicles.

Individuals should have experience in reading plans and shop drawings.

Team oriented engineer with strong communication skills.

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer.

Experience and ability to learn NDT (non-destructive testing) methods such as dye-penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, etc.

The preferred candidate will have a structural/bridge engineering background.

Working knowledge and experience with engineering drafting packages such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and engineering analysis software such as AASHTO BrR.

Licensed drone pilot – successful completion of FAA Part 107 and drone experience.

Work Environment:

The work environment will include a mixture of office and field work.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
