Vacancy expired!

Solidus is searching for an Electrical Engineer.

The successful candidate will join a team that develops advanced aerospace instrumentation to advance the state-of-the-art in remote sensing, surveillance, position-navigation-tracking, and astronomical applications. These instruments and devices involve a wide range of technologies including electro-optics, lasers, electro-mechanical, adaptive optics, energetic particle and RF domains. Proof-of-principle tests and breadboard assemblies are first developed in laboratory conditions. Functional prototypes are further designed, fabricated and verified in representative mission environments. Some projects develop fully flight-qualified instrumentation and conduct extended airborne or spaceborne in-orbit operations and evaluation.

Responsibilities: - Conduct electronic design, fabrication and testing of novel electro-optic laser instrumentation for space applications. - Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop electronic analog control and power subassemblies capable of meeting instrument-derived and high-level mission functional requirements. Consider and tradeoff as needed among COTS, commercial, adapting existing proprietary designs, and fully custom electronic approaches. - Develop appropriate circuit schematics and interconnects for the designs. - Work with board layout, parts planners and fabrication specialists and technicians to fabricate working prototypes boards and modules of these schematic designs. - Test prototype boards and modules against requirements, troubleshoot and iterate as needed, in order to develop working articles for integration into full electro-optic laser systems. - Develop test strategies, support equipment and participate in full electro-optic laser system tests under controlled environmental conditions to meet mission requirements.

Required Skills: - ship and the ability to obtain a DoD Clearance, Active Secret preferred - BS, MS preferred, + 3 years experience wit the following: Analog and power electronic design Detector and amplifier circuits Signal & power conditioning Space qualified: radiation effects & mitigations, total ionizing dose, single event upsets & latchup Electronic test, measurement and troubleshooting IPC Class III printed circuit boards Test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, power supplies, data acquisition) Analog Components Photodetectors Regulation components Thermo-electric coolers Circuit board design using tools (Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Dx Designer, etc.) Simulation tools including LTSpice or OrCAD

- Domains: Analog and power electronic design, signal conditioning, detector and amplifier circuits, power conditioning, electronic test, measurement and troubleshooting. - Electrical engineering: Hands-on approach to electronics development. Use of simulation tools including LTSpice or OrCAD; Working knowledge of circuit board design using tools such as Mentor Graphics Expedition Dx Designer or equivalent. - Hardware: Working knowledge of analog components, thermo-electric coolers, photodetectors, power conditioning and regulation components; electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers; power supplies and data acquisition; IPC Class III printed circuit boards. - Space qualified electronics: Radiation effects and mitigations, total ionizing dose, single event upsets and latchups.

Preferred Skills: - Digital and logic electronics - Critical timing and interlocks - Fault detection and response - Diode Laser - RF fast pulsed (GHz) operation - - Laser diodes; - Fault detection and response; - RF fast pulsed (GHz) operation; - Digital and logic electronics - Critical timing and interlocks
