Job Posting Description

Boston Children's Hospital's EHR system will be consolidated from two systems (Cerner and Epic) into a single one by Epic. Using Epic's EHR software, the hospital will embrace an enhanced model of care centered on readily available health information. This 18-month implementation of a new, unified EHR platform is an enterprise initiative for the hospital that will further strengthen the care we provide to patients and families.

The IT Epic Manager-Acute Specialties - Transplant/Phoenix, Genomics and Cosmos Managershall be responsible for:
  • As a business partner/consultant, proactively engages with internal clients and stakeholders to understand current and future operational needs. Applies deep domain knowledge, a consultative approach with internal clients, and experience with EHRs across related applications to understand how best to address the business needs.
  • Manages and prioritizes the daily workload and assignments of team members to meet business needs. Provides input into department goals. Ensures team has appropriate resources and highlights areas of need to manager for resolution. Regularly reports on the productivity, progress, and effectiveness of the team in comparison to established performance metrics.
  • Guides analysts through the design, build/configuration, testing, and deployment of the team's core Epic applications, features, and integrations with other supported systems/applications. Performs advanced configuration (or customization, as necessary) to address business needs.
  • Manages implementation of core application changes with third-party systems to ensure integration. Assesses or guides others in the assessment of significant integration requirements for the team's core Epic applications. Identifies and recommends need for changes or customizations to the vendor application and other integration elements. Maintains, upgrades, and tests all third-party integrations.
  • Keeps abreast of how the application is being used in other organizations to identify opportunities for optimization, enhancements, etc. Proposes optimizations and enhancements.
  • Manages team's efforts in support of upgrades. Coordinates with Project Management to establish team's deliverables for upgrade tasks and assigned release notes. Communicates and escalates to project and senior management as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains an open communication channel with staff. Facilitates team meetings to discuss the status of deliverables, shared issues, end-users' concerns and upcoming milestones. Serves in a lead role in presentations to senior leadership on key project updates, broad reaching Epic optimizations and issues, industry trends, etc. Serves as a liaison to internal Hospital, associated practice groups, etc. when needed.
  • Defines and communicates goals and expectations for staff, working with senior manager or director to ensure they support the broader process/operation. Provide technical guidance and work direction to staff.
  • May attend and present at national forums (i.e., Epic XGM - Expert Group Meeting, Epic UGM Support - User Group Meeting).
To qualify you must have:
  • Epic certification in one to two applications. Epic specialty certifications, as applicable. BCH will train incumbents as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferred not required and 5+ years of experience in EHR application implementation and/or support, including responsibility for complex builds and integrations. Experience managing multiple EHR applications through the full lifecycle of implementation to go-live to optimization
  • Significant experience in the specific domain (operational area) being supported: Inpatient, Ambulatory, finance/billing, registration/scheduling, etc. demonstrating an understanding of the unique challenges of the groups supported and the knowledge and ability to help them shape and optimize their operational processes.
