The Department of Pediatrics (DoP) is the largest clinical department within Boston Children's Hospital with 800+ faculty members on staff. The DoP consists of 14 clinical divisions that encompass ambulatory as well as inpatient areas along with the Emergency Department. With 200,000+ ambulatory visits and 20,000+ medical admissions per year, ample opportunities exist for improvement work. Our DoP Quality team currently tracks over 400 quality measures across all the clinical divisions. More than 50% of these represent measures of clinical outcomes. Each division maintains a robust inventory of clinical quality and safety improvement projects that are all driven by data captured from our electronic information capture systems.The Manager, Healthcare Data Analysis will be responsible for:- Manages a team of Healthcare Data Analysts to ensure timely delivery, accuracy, and consistency of healthcare data reports in support of the division's goals. Recruits, hires, manages, motivates, and develops assigned staff.
- Conducts performance reviews and recommends promotions, merit raises, and disciplinary action.
- Plans and oversees the administration of the department's healthcare analytics activities. Ensures efficacy of healthcare benchmarks across the department.
- Researches, designs, develops, implements, and maintains reporting and analytical facilities in the context of the hospital's clinical and/or financial systems.
- Collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to ensure that reports are timely, accurate, meaningful, and interpretable.
- Ensures that analyses and reports provide detailed, specific data regarding performance of individuals, teams, programs, divisions, and the department as a whole.
- Generates reports from internal and external sources, including benchmarking databases (e.g. PHIS, PACT, specialty-specific registries).
- Utilizes standard statistical packages (e.g., SAS, R, Stata, SPSS) and other project-specific software. Ensures that code is accurate, efficient, well commented, and organized.
- Provides analyses and reports of performance indicators, providing trended data using statistical process control or other appropriate epidemiological techniques.
- Defines work requirements and sets goals for team; designs and implements systems to catalog, organize and manage work requests; develops data documentation systems and tools.
- Five years experience or M.S. degree and 3 years of related experience. Bachelor's Degree required. Master's preferred.
- Working knowledge of claims data and risk arrangement methodology is preferred.
- Technical awareness of coding systems, data types, and data structures used to store clinical, demographic, and financial data in healthcare databases is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic relational database concepts.
- Knowledge of clinical concepts, terminology, and workflow - preferably as they apply to pediatrics.
- One year of experience in a pediatric healthcare setting is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the value and use of standardized definitions, calculations, naming, and data storage conventions when working with tools to access data and conduct and maintain analyses and reports.
- Attention to detail and ability to develop and maintain effective metadata/documentation to ensure compliance with data governance and data quality processes and procedures.
