Job Posting Description

The Surgical Clinical Reviewer's (SCR) chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP®) Pediatrics. This is accomplished through high quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP® Pediatric database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital.

This Surgical Clinical Review will be responsible for:
  • Identifyingsurgical cases for inclusion in the ACS NSQIP® Pediatric database through the application of program inclusion/exclusion criteria and systematic sampling protocols.
  • Collectingpreoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative data through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems, and maintaininga complete database for all qualified surgical cases.
  • Adheringto data management protocols to ensure accurate and timely entry of data into the program's database and meetingthe caseload accrual requirements.
  • Demonstratingappropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the database. Validatingdata collection through routine communication with the Senior Surgical Advisor for Quality and Safety and the Children's Surgery Program Manager.
  • Establishingeffective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and the Information Systems Departments whose support is necessary for the management and success of the program. DisseminatingNSQIP® Pediatric data and analysis to appropriate surgical specialties.
  • Maintainingaccurate, consistent, and complete follow-up of cases. Contactingcaregivers and / or families via telephone and/or written communications postoperatively for the purpose of identifying possible occurrences associated with surgical procedures performed at the hospital.
  • Demonstratingongoing continuing education through participation in SCR education conference calls, attendance at the annual ACS quality conference, and maintaining certification as an SCR through initial and ongoing competency assessment. Serves as an educational resource on the ACS NSQIP® Pediatric for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.
To qualify, you must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other clinical specialty (eg: Pharmacist, Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist).
  • Strong communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
  • Orientation to detail, with the ability to work with a wide variety of internal and external colleagues including study sponsors, staff, medical providers, patients and families.
  • Proficient in EMRs.
