Occupational Therapist OT - ( 3311972 )DescriptionOccupational Therapist Needed for SpauldingScheduled: 8 Hours/WeekClinical Focus: Amputee Center of Excellence SummaryThe Amputee Center of Excellence (ACE) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our interdisciplinary team dedicated to supporting individuals with upper limb loss. This position will play a key role in our limb loss clinic, focusing on research-based interventions, community outreach, and the development of standardized care protocols. The OT will work closely with medical and research professionals to promote patient independence and support access to cutting-edge prosthetic technology and training.Key Responsibilities:

Limb Loss Clinic Participation

Actively participate in the limb loss clinic to provide current resources, research-supported interventions, and individualized care plans to patients with upper limb loss.

Collaborate with other clinicians to evaluate and address unique functional and rehabilitation needs of upper limb amputees.

Research Integration

Connect patients with upper limb loss to relevant research opportunities, ensuring they are informed of ongoing clinical trials and studies that may benefit their rehabilitation and quality of life.

Support the dissemination of research findings and facilitate patient engagement in studies.

Community Outreach and Patient Recruitment

Assist with community outreach initiatives to educate and attract new patients, particularly from outside the Boston area.

Work collaboratively with outreach teams to raise awareness of ACE’s services and promote access to advanced rehabilitation resources for individuals with upper limb loss.

Continuing Education and Professional Development

Promote and support continuing education for upper limb loss care within Boston-area hospitals and universities affiliated with Mass General Brigham (MGB).

Engage with hospital and university partners to encourage best practices, drive education on cutting-edge rehabilitation techniques, and share the latest research developments in prosthetic care.

Standardization of Pre-Prosthetic Care and Prosthetic Training

Work to standardize pre-prosthetic care and prosthetic training protocols across the hospital system for patients with upper limb loss.

Develop, implement, and monitor best practices in pre-prosthetic interventions and training to ensure consistency and quality across all rehabilitation settings.

Complete outpatient evaluation and treatments as necessary

Deliver high-quality clinical care in collaboration with mentees, ensuring comprehensive and accurate documentation of patient evaluations, treatments, and outcomes to support patient-centered care and professional development.

Occupational Therapy needs are assessed and evaluated according to organizational and professional guidelines.

Treatment plan reflects understanding of patients’ age and situation including discharge plan.

Treatment plan is revised based on patient progress towards stated goals.

Documentation is complete, timely and in accordance with facility and practice guidelines.

Therapy and health care students are oriented, trained, and mentored to achieve stated performance expectations.

Performance Improvement opportunities are identified and acted upon as appropriate to implement best practices.

Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.

QualificationsEducation/DegreeRequired

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program.

LicensureRequired

Licensed (and in good standing) as an occupational therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)Required

BLS required.

Effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language.

Basic skills in math and computer science.

Appropriate knowledge occupational therapy evaluation and treatment techniques to manage the rehabilitation population.

Effective problem solving skills for occupational therapy evaluation, interpretation, treatment planning and execution taking into consideration patient’s age, psychosocial, cultural and religious background.

Basic skills in teaching other and self assessment of learning needs, strengths, and professional goals.

Safely execute all job responsibilities without risking injury to self or patients. Ability to assess and interact with patients and families using the theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background.

Maintain variable work schedule depending on hospital/program needs to provide patient care (evening, holidays, weekend and travel).

Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.

Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.
