Server Administrator

Our client, a public agency serving the city of Boston, is looking to hire a Server Administrator for a 6-month contract in Boston, MA. The Server Administrator will support the IT department by managing server operation and maintenance and providing user support as necessary on a hybrid work schedule. Applicants must be located in the Boston area and be able to work onsite 3 days a week.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain servers and virtual infrastructure including hosts, network attached storage and related peripherals
  • Conduct data backup and restoration procedures for servers and users
  • Assess and forecast user needs for server and storage capacity
  • Work alongside internal systems management and IT to optimize database server performance and maintain network infrastructure and phone systems
  • Provide swift and accurate diagnosis and resolution of system issues as required
  • Participate in staff training as necessary

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • 1-3 years of professional experience with hands-on server support, data recovery, and a successful track record solving user-oriented technical issues
  • 1 or more years of Microsoft SQL 2008 Server experience required
  • Experience with data backup applications required, particularly Veeam and BackUpExec
  • Familiarity with OSI layers of computer networking
  • Expert-level familiarity with the following:
  • EMC storage configuration
  • Microsoft Server 2008 and later
  • Microsoft Exchange 2010 and later
  • VMware virtual server and desktop configuration
  • VMware vSphere and view
