This Software Architect shall:
  • Lead and facilitate development of high performance, mission critical applications with high availability and facilitate the adoption of new infrastructure, tools, and frameworks for the Anesthesia department’s information technology team.
  • Work with a team of software engineers and data engineers to help define and grow the team’s approach to software design and architecture, including but not limited to how custom applications interact with each other and external systems, how data is managed, stored, and retrieved, and what systems the team uses for monitoring, deployment, and support.
  • Build, configure, and maintain new development tools and infrastructure, including but not limited to maintaining application server infrastructure; researching, testing, installing/configuring new frameworks/tools; ensuring security standards are met to protect applications from cybersecurity threats; and aiding engineers on the team with adoption of new technologies/tools.
  • Identify, evaluate, and organize the implementation of software technologies, tools, and platforms, leading the formulation of technical best practices and overseeing their adoption, and considering long-term issues such as system integration, sustainability, and scalability.
  • Interact with project teams to ensure the architectural design of software and data engineering projects meets the needs of the clinical users and fit within the team’s infrastructure
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers, helping where necessary in the implementation of new languages, frameworks, and applications.
  • Aid in the planning, tracking, and scheduling of software releases
  • May have hands-on development responsibility for select software projects when necessary.

In order to qualify you must have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency writing Java code, analyzing and using algorithms, and designing and developing full-stack web applications.
  • Proficiency writing SQL queries, understanding complex data models, and designing databases
  • Familiarity with coding best practices and the software development lifecycle – from initial analysis/design by coding, testing, and deploying, to support, maintenance, and enhancement.
  • Experience leading complex system design conversations, and working on large-scale and cross-functional projects with complex requirements.
  • Experience working with and implementing new technologies, languages, frameworks, etc.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with great attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with a scripting language such as Python, machine learning, Linux, and/or AWS is a plus, but not required.
