HII Unmanned Systems (HII UxS) is seeking a seasoned and talented Sr. Software Engineer to develop and support embedded software design and development in the unmanned maritime products. As our new Software Engineer you will be responsible of software architecture design, component level interaction, feature implementation and support of system integration. You will be the key developer in SW organization of HII Mission Technology division.

Your duties and responsibilities include:
  • Demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative to design, develop and maintain unique, differentiated solutions of complex problems in HII products and programs.
  • Be responsible of software deliverables of product and service solutions.
  • Architect and design software components in new product or existing product enhancement.
  • Implement and test software solution in the system.
  • Enhance features and fix existing defects for customer.
  • Document software development requirement, design, and implementation related activities.
  • Share inputs for RFI, RFP, software manuals and training materials.
  • Effectively communicate findings, problems and solutions to functional, project teams, as well as external customers.
  • Coordinate with system, firmware, hardware and other engineering teams to support the best software quality in release.
  • Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment and defects.
  • Follow software development process and best practices.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship in software engineering team.
  • Travel to offsite locations as required, including oversea facilities.

What you will be doing

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

What we are looking for

  • 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics Engineering.
  • 10+ years hands-on experience in embedded software programing on C/C, C#, Python or other industrial level programing language.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance
  • Extensive experience with coding, system design and algorithm design.
  • Experience with open architecture and software modulization design.
  • Experience with real-time system development of Linux, Unix, VxWorks and/or a RTOS.
  • Solid networking knowledge on OSI, TCP/IP and/or UDP.
  • Excellent debugging expertise with hard-to-reproduce whole-system problems.
  • Ability to successfully function in a team with cross-functional team members and multi-tasking.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
