Ensures the correct medications are dispensed to the correct patients in an efficient and safe manner as promised. Medication compliance monitoring, chronic disease state management, patient consultation, and provider communications are a part of daily tasks. This position is a part of the interdisciplinary team that includes clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other ancillary staff.Job Description:Primary Responsibilities:

Assists with the planning, directing, supervising and monitoring of daily pharmacy operations within the specialty pharmacy. Serves as liaison between pharmacy operations and external prescribers/clinical areas and patients.

Resolve any and all problems/issues that arise during the normal course of operations, ensures that problems are resolved in a compliant, safe and efficient manner. Uses professional judgement to determine if/when problem needs to be escalates to the Director.

Performs the role of a Staff Specialty Pharmacist which includes dispensing prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care by reviewing prescriptions issued by Physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy, directing pharmacy personnel engaged in packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals, and answering questions and provides information to patients on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.

Provides direction and support to both professional and technical staff to ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Assists with the hiring and training of new staff and implementation and go live of new programs/goals.

Has the authority to direct and support employees (pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and ancillary pharmacy personnel) daily work activities. Assists with the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action, and performance review.

Assists with obtaining, maintaining, and reapplying for various accreditations related to specialty pharmacy (URAC, ACHC, etc).

Participates up to 10% of their time as a member of various Quality Management Committees to provide quality management oversight to the pharmacy operations and client satisfaction. Fulfills the duty of the “Senior Clinical Person” with respect to accreditation.

Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctoral degree in pharmacy preferred.

Massachusetts Pharmacist Licensure required.

3-5 years related work experience in a Specialty Pharmacy.

Understanding of insurance and adjudication processes.

Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in specialty pharmacy accreditation. 340B Pharmacy experience. Contracting experience.

Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) certification
