We are seeking a Lab Manager to support and operate the engineering test lab enabling the roll out, ramp, test, and validation of our DC system product.

Position Overview Company is seeking an individual to be a key member of the System Engineering team. The position requires working collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to design novel solutions to complex utility scale energy storage challenges using our LiquidTM Metal Battery technology.The individual in this role will be responsible for the operation of the engineering test/development lab to support the efforts by the test engineers and design team in their development, test, and certification of ourDC battery system.The Lab Manager will be responsible for working in conjunction with other disciplines (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Regulatory) as Company drives to test and validate system performance.The Lab Manager will maintain all aspects of the engineering lab, including equipment, consumables, test space, development space, budget planning, test planning, resource scheduling, lab safety and training.

Responsibilities:
  • Staff, build out and establish a multi-function lab space that requires technical support for electrical and mechanical assembly and test of PCBA’s, battery assemblies, electrical power systems, mechanical assemblies and welding, environmental testing, at high temperatures and various other capabilities.
  • Oversea and directly manage a group of Test engineers and Laboratory technicians (Electrical and Mechanical).
  • Manage the lab test equipment including specification, budgeting, purchasing, maintaining, calibrating all lab test equipment.
  • Manage the lab consumables, i.e., wire, terminals, components, connectors including specification, budgeting, purchasing, stocking, organizing, etc.
  • Manage the lab space, outfitting test benches and or test cells, assigning space to engineers/test engineers, resource management, coordinate with program schedules
  • Work with test engineers supporting equipment needs, test space, lab safety, resource coordination.
  • Oversee lab operations, plan/schedule lab activities/tests, oversee all safety aspects, day to day operations, lab organization, data and file management
  • Review and approve all test plans
  • Provide training for lab personnel
  • Oversee design, fabrication, assembly of test articles and test fixtures including data acquisition, measurement, and control.
  • Develop cost and schedule estimates, assign resources, track schedule and cost performance.
  • Work collaboratively with Regulatory and Compliance team to define and plan for required testing.
  • Support outside 3rd party testing, such as NRTL on site and remote work as needed, which can include functional test, cycling test, performance test, compliance and EMC test protocols and procedures.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment, tools, methods, and practices is required
  • 5-10 years of experience in engineering or development lab environment
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and circuit design, preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of electrical storage systems is preferred
  • Comfort and familiarity working in mechanical, thermal, electrical, and chemical systems is preferred.
  • Experience with personal project management is a plus.
