The Opportunity and Who You’ll Work With:Position Type: Permanent, Full Time, Benefits EligibleHybrid Format: Onsite 5 days in our Boston officeSchedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, 08:00AM – 04:00PM ETAiring on nearly 500 stations, Here & Now with hosts Robin Young, Deepa Fernandes and Scott Tong brings the news that breaks after Morning Edition and before All Things Considered. Produced by NPR and WBUR Boston in collaboration with the 30-station Contributors Network, Here & Now is four hours of flexible content each weekday; a modern platform for national news on-air and online. Regular segments include reporting on medicine and science, the environment and stories from our editorial partners, and the international staff of the Washington Post.As our Technical Director for Here & Now, you will be one of two primary audio engineers responsible for assisting in the production of WBUR & NPR’s daily 4-hour news magazine program. You will assist our show’s Senior Technical Director by occasionally operating the mixing board during the show, establishing broadcast-quality connections to remote locations, ensuring the fidelity of live & recorded interviews for on-air & digital platforms, and maintaining the integrity of the audio feed to NPR for distribution to hundreds of stations. You will assume the Senior Technical Director’s duties whenever they are absent and help train & instruct fill-in engineers for continuous production of the program.Your Responsibilities:

(30%) Assist in the pre-production of Here & Now, recording interviews for the program and making sure audio quality is technically sound. Facilitate broadcast-quality connections to remote sources, edits & mixes interviews as directed by Here & Now’s senior editorial team and assemble & mix feature stories from reporters at NPR member stations. Responsibilities also may include obtaining music and sound effects, suggesting production techniques to meet program requirements, and reviewing productions to ensure objectives are met.

(30%) Occasionally operate the mixing board during Here & Now's live broadcast, establish connections to remote sources, ensure the fidelity of telephone & Voice-over-IP signals, and verify continuity of the audio feed to NPR for distribution to stations and for digital platforms.

(30%) Occasionally assist in the post-production of Here & Now for re-broadcast, for breaking news & live updates of the program, and for digital platforms related to broadcast segments of the program. You will also repackage elements of the daily radio product into its accompanying podcast, Here & Now Anytime.

(10%) Provide coverage for our show’s Senior Technical Director when they are absent and participate in the instruction & onboarding of fill-in engineers assigned to cover Here & Now.

This position is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The minimum salary is $73,185.00 and can go up based on experience and internal equity.Required SkillsWhat You’ll Need to Succeed:Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent/relevant experience

3-5 years of relevant experience

Experience working with a daily deadline, knowledge of current events including domestic and international news.
