What you will be doing as a Corporate Communications Intern :Interns in this area will be a part of the team that is responsible for supporting and executing external strategic communications efforts that help position the organization for success in a very competitive industry.Interns will report to a Meijer Corporate Communications Manager and gain experience with:S tory mining and drafting thought leadership posts and community engagement content for its community siteWork with internal clients to identify and execute relevant news announcements.Leverage the team’s measurement tools to share communications successes with its internal clients.Support communications efforts for the 2024 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give , an LPGA tour event at Blythefield Country Club, which benefits the retailer’s hallmark hunger relief program.The intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:Media relations support for corporate announcementsWriting external communicationsCollaborating with the Social Media and Internal Communications teams to share positive news stories.Qualifications :

Progress toward a bachelor's or advanced degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field, with a preference for Spring 2025 graduates

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as experience using Teams

Drive for Results: Has focus on the bottom line

Customer Focus: Dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers

Relationship Skills: Can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external clients

Communication Skills: Conveys the right information in writing and verbally, with emphasis on business writing and grammar usage

Problem Solving: Probes all fruitful sources for answers, and looks beyond the obvious to assemble and interpret data

Priority Setting: Can quickly and independently make decisions to accomplish goals

Self Awareness: Has confidence to seek feedback and learn from mistakes.

Passionate storyteller: has a solid understanding of the value of news which helps them identify and flesh out news stories using basic interview techniques

Self-starter: Has ability to think outside the box to help broaden relationships of the Meijer External Communications Team with members of the media.
