Observes patients’ physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by physician. Performs pre- and post- operative evaluations on assigned cases, and provides accurate documentation in the electronic medical recordESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direction of an Anesthesiologist provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent anesthesia practice Assembles necessary supplies, drugs and equipment for each case, and tests equipment to ensure proper functioning for surgical procedure. Discusses and develops anesthetic plan in collaboration with anesthesiologist. Reviews patients’ medical records to determine types of procedures to be performed and evaluate patient’s medical status. Establishes or confirms the presence of appropriate intravenous access. If trained and credentialed, may insert arterial catheters, perform spinal anesthesia, and IV regional anesthesia. Provides emergency airway support as requested throughout the facility Performs supportive life functions, including intratracheal intubation, management of blood, fluid and electrolyte loss, and maintenance of cardiovascular and respiratory functions. Identifies and manages emergency situations, including assessment of adequacy of recovery or antagonism of muscle relaxants, narcotics, and other agents; implements appropriate management techniques. Carefully documents all activities on the anesthetic record or patients’ medical record. Reports to other departments when transferring patient care responsibilities. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature, attending related seminars, conferences and the like. Regularly attends weekly Department Meetings and participates in committees as requested. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values and policies of Trinity Health. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms other duties as assigned.REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSUREEducation: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
