Job Description Vehicle Motion Embedded Controls VMEC is hiring a DevOps Engineer. This is a production level group that supports the definition, design, implementation, and release of continuously improving software for control strategies, diagnostics, and controller communication. This means that you can put your fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road! Autonomous Vehicle Controls We are seeking a creative, highly motivated individual with the passion and technical expertise to be a DevOps engineer on the Autonomous Vehicle Controls team. In this role, you will be based out of GM's Milford Proving Grounds and work collaboratively with external teams in Canada and California. As a DevOps Engineer you will be a responsible for managing the tool chain for continuous integration and testing of the embedded controls software and provide system level expertise to design, procure, commission, and maintain the build and simulation environment. This role has both technical and business responsibilities. Key Technical Responsibilities:

  • Develop, build, and maintain an embedded software release and test environment using GM's GIT ecosystem tool chain to support Autonomous SIL and HIL bench testing.
  • Design, develop, and maintain simulation plant models capable of closed loop automated test execution
  • Work with cross functional teams to define thorough and efficient test scenarios
  • Troubleshoot, root cause, and resolve bench integration issues including hardware, software, and wiring
  • Support Key Behavior Tests and milestone tests based on program milestones
  • Work with GM Tool team representatives for improvements and updates to the tool chain
Key Business Responsibilities:
  • Plan and maintain budget estimates for all tool and bench assets
  • Generate a business case and get vendor quotes for upgrades or new purchases
  • Maintain appropriate software/hardware versions for required testing and simulation tools
  • Support invoice processing for accurate financial accounting
  • Educate, train and mentor new or less experienced engineers on the deployment environment
Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 40-50% of the time. Additional Job Description Minimum Skills and Experience Required:
  • BS Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 2+ years of experience working with Embedded software development tool chain
  • Working knowledge of the agile Software Development Process
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others including global partners
  • High level of analytical ability with excellent communication and interpersonal skills which is required to build relationships with team members and other key partners to resolve complex technical issues
  • Proficient in performing high quality analysis of software functionality which enable first time capable features being delivered to the vehicle
  • Capable leading innovative projects to develop new methods, process, or tools
  • Working knowledge of C, C, or Python and comfortable using software development tools
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results while demonstrating appropriate prioritization and planning to deliver on results on schedule
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with vehicle control systems doing development, testing, or calibration
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SiL/HiL benches (e.g. dSPACE), Simulink, Stateflow, ETAS INCA or Vehicle Spy
  • dSpace tool chain including control desk, real time interface, fault injection, and closed loop models
  • Experience with software quality and debugging tools such as Lauterbach, Parasoft, and CppUnit
  • Business skills with the ability to manage high value capital assets
