ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for Electrical Components profitability initiatives. Drives cost optimization activities in addition to cost avoidance for the near and long term needs of the business.
  • Lead strategy to identify technical cost reduction opportunities
  • Single point ownership and documentation of profitability improvement ideas
  • Maintain and provide data to be used by the Vehicle Systems organization for frontloading and target setting of program costs. BOM family strategies will be comprehended as necessary to support programs. I.e. connector strategies.
  • Support target setting
  • Continuous improvement of the tactical elements of the front loading process and DDR
  • Enterprise Cost Management (Piece cost, investment, ED&D)
    • Documentation by BOM ROW in Share Point site.
    • Manage and drive Cost and Complexity Reduction for assigned area. Workshops, Emails, Suggestions, Corp Initiatives, Etc.
    • Document piece cost read across for program usage and cost reduction ideas.
    • Leverage Cost Engineering where appropriate for Estimates, Models, Rates, Etc.
  • Support read across of cost reduction opportunities through efficient and effective utilization of tools (BOM complexity / requirements / component re-use / tooling capacity utilization).
  • Collaboratively work with a cross-functional team of BA engineers, Buyers, Vehicle Programs, Manufacturing and Marketing to reduce costs to vehicles over all.
  • Collaboratively work with a cross-functional team of BA engineers and ECT’s to provide data support for BOM Leaders, BFO and GSSLT Lead for execution of Brand Segment Strategy and Feature plan norms, including Marketing.
  • Investment Costs: provide avenue to document costs provided by Vendor tooling.
  • Logistics and Service, support with cost data to determine enterprise strategy.
  • Cross SMT Communication for cost status to target
  • Train and mentor new engineers and buyers to understand the cost structure of their components.
  • Works cross-functionally with Purchasing, Engineering, Program Engineering and Cost Engineering - down to VPPS level 3 and 4 as required. Attends:
    • ECT meetings
    • VAVE Meetings
    • Sourcing table meetings where appropriate and support pulling together strategic packages
    • Program Level meetings/workshops as required
    • Supplier Technical Reviews and Negotiations

Basic Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ Experience in Electrical SMT
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a high level of accountability and autonomy
  • Knowledge of electrical cost
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and meeting facilitation skills
  • Understanding of product design and process interdependencies
  • To the level needed, functional experience and understanding of tooling, equipment and assembly processes and their interface to conveyors, material delivery, controls and IT
  • Initiative to reach beyond current assignment and improve the output and/or help others
  • Strong Excel, SharePoint, Power BI and data management skills
  • Strong Analytical Problem-Solving Skills
