Eaton's Industrial Sector Software, Electronics and Controls (SwEC) Center of Excellence (COE) is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join our team. This position can be based at our Southfield, MI or Galesburg, MI locations. Position Overview: This position will lead a team of embedded software engineers in the Software and Controls COE to develop and configure embedded software (SW) for eMobility and Vehicle electrification programs. This role will direct, develop, implement strategic and tactical plans for execution of xEV embedded software development and IR&D projects The Manager for Embedded Software is responsible for driving common embedded software strategies, including Autosar stack selection, flexible integration strategies, processes, tools and technical expertise across the organization and leveraging engineering resources around the world. This role will be responsible for talent selection and development as needed for scaling to the business needs. This role is also responsible for interfacing with group-level businesses and system engineering to determine product strategies and roadmaps. The SW&C Manager will lead and direct development of a global team of software engineers directly and indirectly in the U.S., Europe and India. In this function you will:
  • Lead, mentor and coach a global team of software engineering professionals in Core Software, Autosar configuration and CDD development
  • Scope resource demands for various IS projects. Support technical volume content for proposals. Responsible for supporting initial project development plans, resource plans, risk assessment, etc. for proposal activities.
  • Talent selection and development of global software engineering team
  • Collaborate with internal global partners to deliver on shared goals
  • Drive common software development tools and processes
  • Work in a matrixed environment with Regional CoE Management
  • Interface with product teams, suppliers, customers and external consultants/contractors
  • Contribute to definition of global software strategy and roadmap
  • Develop global core technical competencies in Software Engineering, including memory management, diagnostics architecture/strategy and Autosar competencies. Execute product improvement and cost reduction projects
  • Develop individual goals / development plans for software engineers and conduct performance reviews
  • Manage appropriate protection of intellectual property relating to software technologies.
  • Selecting and developing talent for the business needs, ensuring proper fit for the role and environment
Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or relevant engineering degree
  • 8+ years technical expertise in the area of embedded software engineering.
  • 1+ year of experience managing or leading others
  • 5+ year technical experience in:
    • Creating embedded software architecture
    • Design and development of new or incremental updates to existing products
    • Structured problem solving
  • 5+ years of experience in Program management and customer interface
Preferred qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering or Engineering Mgt.
  • Formal training in Functional Safety requirements (e.g. ISO26262 or IEC61508)
  • 2+ year technical experience in:
    • Developing low level drivers
    • Using static analysis and debugger tools for embedded software development.
